DescriptionAmazon LEO is an initiative to increase global broadband access through a constellation of 3,236 satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). Amazon LEO will help close the digital divide by delivering fast, affordable broadband to a wide range of customers, including consumers, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in places without reliable connectivity.Key job responsibilitiesAs a Sr. CT System Engineer, you will be responsible for Customer Terminal (CT) integration and validation with hardware, software, and firmware. You will be working in a collaborative environment with a multi-disciplinary team. In this role, your responsibilities include:Develop the CT architecture by working closely with sub-system engineers in electrical, RF, antenna, thermal, modem, DSP, ASIC, algorithm, firmware, modeling, and softwareDesign tradeoffs of various CT architectures including RF and performance simulation to support tradeoff decisionsDevelop, maintain, and support customer terminal validation hardware, lab, and softwareProactively engage with internal and external development partners on Systems' hardware and software architectures and implementationEnsure delivered work meets technical, functional, performance, regulatory and business requirementsPerform in-field and on-orbit validation with satellitesTraveling up to 10% of the time, depending on project phasesExport Control Requirement:Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.A day in the lifeAs a Sr. CT System Engineer on the Leo Customer Terminal Team, you will work daily with electrical, hardware, RF, antenna, silicon, and product design engineers, as well as software and operations teams in a collaborative environment. Your focus will be on the validation of hardware sub-systems, high-speed digital communication buses, antenna array boards, hardware components, and low-speed serial communication buses.About the teamThe Leo Customer Terminal team is responsible for developing both outdoor & indoor devices, enabling customers internet service via the Leo satellite network. We own the entire process from early prototypes through mass production including requirements documents, architecture definition, hardware development, and all integration/verification testing.Basic Qualifications3+ years of hardware design and validation of components, subsystems and systems experienceBachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, physics, or other relevant engineering discipline5+ years of satellite terminal development, integration, and validation experienceStrong understanding of communication systems, RF, and phased array antennaExperience in MATLAB, Python or C++Familiarity with test instruments such as oscilloscope, spectrum analyzers, vector signal analyzers, vector signal generators, channel emulators, network emulators, and GNSS emulators5+ years of experience in development for complex telecommunication, antenna, and/or satellite communication systems developmentPreferred QualificationsMaster's or PhD degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering or other relevant engineering disciplineKnowledge of digital communication systems, error correction, synchronization, spread spectrum, single and multi-carrier techniques, and modulation types such as QPSK, APSK, and QAMExperience working with mobility satellite terminals such as maritime and aeronauticalUnderstanding of free space communication and satellite link budget principles in Ka-bandExperience in developing simulation and modeling toolsFamiliarity with active and passive RF components, EE hardware, beamforming circuits, and electromagnetic propagationSatellite over-the-air communication field trial experienceDebugging skills for systems integration from RF front end to basebandDesign experience with high-speed digital and/or RF circuitry in collaboration with various teamsAmazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status.Our inclusive culture empowers Amazonians to deliver the best results for our customers. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
