Staff Software Test Engineer – Embedded SystemsCarlsbad, California | Engineering | Full-timeAbout the RoleWe're seeking a Staff Software Test Engineer to lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of embedded software test infrastructure for complex, production-grade embedded systems. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on developing automated test frameworks, validating embedded software, and improving build and verification processes across multiple hardware platforms.The ideal candidate enjoys solving difficult technical problems, building scalable test systems, and collaborating closely with software, firmware, hardware, and systems engineering teams.What You'll DoDesign and develop embedded software test infrastructure from system requirementsCreate, implement, and maintain Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) test frameworksDevelop automated test solutions for embedded software applicationsVerify implemented features against functional requirementsMaintain and enhance automated build and continuous integration processesDevelop and maintain Python-based engineering and test utilitiesDocument test architecture, automation frameworks, and validation proceduresPerform hardware-based testing using laboratory equipment including power supplies, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, digital multimeters, and related toolsCollaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to improve software quality throughout the development lifecycleMentor and provide technical guidance to other test engineersRequired Qualifications8+ years of embedded software development and/or embedded software test experienceStrong Python programming skillsExperience programming in C with a working knowledge of C++Experience testing embedded systemsExperience developing automated test frameworksFamiliarity with Linux development environmentsExperience using Git version controlStrong understanding of software quality, maintainability, and performanceExperience documenting software and test proceduresComfortable working in a fast-paced product development environmentExcellent analytical and problem-solving skillsAbility to lead technical initiatives and mentor engineersPreferred QualificationsExperience with battery management systems (BMS), power electronics, charging systems, thermal control systems, or other complex embedded control systemsKnowledge of distributed embedded architectures and real-time control systemsExperience with CAN, LIN, or similar embedded communication protocolsFamiliarity with Jira or similar issue tracking and requirements management toolsExperience developing Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) test environmentsEducationBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical disciplineCompensation & BenefitsCompetitive base salaryEquity opportunityComprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverageRetirement savings programGenerous paid time off and company holidays
