Digital Controls/Firmware Engineering Manager
Wright Technical Services is representing an industry-leading advanced manufacturing
organization seeking an Engineering Manager – Digital Controls / Firmware to lead a team
responsible for developing embedded firmware and digital control solutions for high-
performance industrial control platforms supporting advanced manufacturing and energy-
related technologies.
This role combines technical leadership, people leadership, and project execution oversight. The Engineering Manager will drive team performance, support engineering talent development, coordinate cross-functional resources, and ensure successful execution of firmware and controls development initiatives in an agile product development environment.
Responsibilities
Lead and manage a team of engineers focused on embedded firmware and digital
control system development
Set team priorities, assign project work, and ensure timely delivery of engineering
deliverables
Provide coaching, mentorship, performance feedback, and career development support
for team members
Lead goal setting, performance reviews, and individual development planning
Ensure team deliverables align with business objectives, product roadmaps, and project
timelines
Drive and improve engineering workflows including agile development practices, sprint
planning, and project tracking
Coordinate cross-functional efforts with hardware, mechanical, product development,
manufacturing, and support teams
Provide high-level technical guidance and support architecture and design decision-
making with technical SMEs
Evaluate and implement new tools, platforms, and development methodologies to
improve team efficiency and product quality
Promote best practices in firmware development, validation, and documentation
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical discipline
3+ years of engineering leadership, technical project leadership, or direct people
management experience
Proven ability to lead technical teams and coordinate engineering work across multiple
projects
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
Demonstrated success working in cross-functional engineering environments
Preferred:
Experience with embedded firmware, real-time systems, or digital control system
development
Experience with power electronics, industrial equipment, welding systems, or motion
control
Familiarity with C/C++ firmware development for microcontrollers
Understanding of control theory or signal processing
Exposure to FPGA development (VHDL preferred)
