The Westside Family Preservation Services Network has been working on strengthening families and preventing child abuse and neglect for more than 22 years. Join our agency and be part of a team that makes a difference in the lives of families undergoing trauma and hardship in rural communities of Fresno County. Our Youth Empowerment Center program is to make a big difference in the lives of children who today live in rural, impoverished farm worker communities on the West side of Fresno County, especially in the three core areas of: education; mental health, especially suicide prevention and healthy relationships. These children, teens and young adults, ages 10 – 24, are often neglected and experience a number of significant challenges. The job is to empower them with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to pursue the role in life that they set for themselves and to support their attainment of their unique dreams.
THE POSITION: We are recruiting for parent partners for our Youth Empowerment Centers for Kerman location. This position provides support to the youth and their families entering the program by connecting them to different resources. Provides support within the areas of outreach and program activities.
QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma, GED, or Associates degree in Social Work, Human Services, or related field. Professional experience may be considered for candidates without college education.
Ability to engage youth from diverse backgrounds using a compassionate and nonjudgmental approach.
Understands the principles of youth engagement and empowerment.
The candidate must go through a background check and have a current tuberculosis test.
Must be fluent in English and Spanish and possess excellent writing skills in English.
Candidate must demonstrate that they have a strong motivation for serving vulnerable individuals, many of whom face chronic circumstances of poverty and marginalization. They must demonstrate that they value kindness, have empathy for others, and will work continuously on the development of these values in themselves, in the workplace.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide support for the activities and services provided at the centers.
Advocate and support students and families to gain skills and tools needed
Provides introduction and engagement support for families entering services
Assist and advocate with IEP’s, probation, mental health, and resources as needed based on the family’s needs.
Provide peer counseling and linkages to services to assist in improving outcomes for children and families.
Provides family support and advocacy, helping to model communication skills, anger management, problem-solving and appropriate discipline, and they guide families through the intricacies of the service delivery system.
Engage parents in activities through community outreach. Support Youth Empowerment Center with including information and referral to services for families as appropriate.
Maintain communication with parents of all services, training, and program opportunities available through our agency.
Conducts parent workshops such as enrollment and community information.
Assists with the implementation of ACE’s screening.
Follows all policies, procedures and legal mandates including HIPAA, client confidentiality, releases of information, protected health information and client files.
Develops an assistance and support system for current and prospective students and families to aid them in navigating the system; conducting, attending, participating on orientations, and meetings; and developing and providing outreach information to increase community awareness and education regarding new initiatives.
Reports to work on time and maintains reliable and regular attendance.
Performs other duties as assigned.
