Java Developer (Electronic Equities) – Vice President
Overview
As a Java Developer in Citi’s Equities Electronic Trading team, you will shape the core low-latency trading platform. You’ll work within a high-caliber engineering and product partnership to deliver a modern, microservices-based system that is highly automated and scalable. You drive performance, reliability, and new trading capabilities in a fast-moving, governed environment. This role offers impact across the global Equities platform with a strong emphasis on design and delivery excellence.

ResponsibilitiesLead design, development, and optimization of high-performance, low-latency microservices for the trading platformImplement and enhance complex trading logic and system optimizations to ensure stability and scalabilityConduct design discussions and rigorous code reviews to uphold quality and architectural integrityCollaborate with product, quantitative researchers, and other tech teams to deliver new capabilitiesAdvance testing frameworks, tooling, and deployment processes for a low-latency, high-throughput environmentResolve complex technical challenges by analyzing requirements, processes, and industry best practicesDevelop and maintain monitoring, trade reconciliation, and application recovery solutionsAssess risk and ensure compliance with laws and Citi policies, escalating control issues as needed
Key requirements5+ years of software development focused on high-performance, low-latency systemsExpert-level Core Java with deep JVM, concurrency, GC, and memory management knowledgeExperience designing and developing automated trading systems or electronic execution platformsStrong understanding of financial market protocols (e.g., FIX) and handling order/market datasetsExperience with microservices and distributed systemsProficiency with testing frameworks, Agile, and CI/CDExcellent communication skills for conveying complex conceptsFamiliarity with messaging/data grid tools (Solace, AMPS, Chronicle) and automation tools (Ansible) is a plusBachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferredcommunicationcollaborationproblem-solvingCore JavaJVM internalsconcurrency
