Android/Linux Audio Subsystem Engineer

Job Type: Full time/Contract Workplace: Palo Alto/ Long Beach - CA (hybrid) *Position Summary* We are seeking an experienced engineer with deep expertise in *Android and Linux audio subsystems*, specifically focused on *Audio HAL development*. The ideal candidate has hands‑on experience building, customizing, and optimizing the Android Audio HAL, integrating with ALSA/ASoC drivers, and ensuring reliable, low‑latency audio performance across embedded platforms. This role requires strong technical depth across both user‑space and kernel‑level audio components, along with the ability to collaborate closely with DSP, hardware, and platform engineering teams. *Key Responsibilities* * Design, implement, and optimize the Android Audio HAL (HIDL/AIDL) for playback, capture, routing, and effects. * Work across Android and Linux audio subsystems, including ALSA/ASoC, AudioFlinger, and kernel‑level audio drivers. * Integrate and tune DSP firmware, audio codecs, and hardware routing paths. * Debug audio issues across kernel logs, logcat, dmesg, and ALSA utilities. * Collaborate with hardware teams during board bring‑up to validate audio paths and device behavior. * Improve audio performance for media, voice, gaming, and low‑latency applications. * Support Bluetooth, USB, and other audio peripherals within the HAL and kernel layers. *Qualifications* * Strong expertise in *Android and Linux system development*. * Proven experience in *Audio HAL development* (HIDL/AIDL). * Deep understanding of ALSA/ASoC, PCM interfaces, mixer controls, and kernel audio architecture. * Hands‑on experience with AudioFlinger, buffer management, and low‑latency audio pipelines. * Proficiency in C/C++, embedded development, and Linux kernel debugging. * Experience integrating DSPs and audio codecs.
