The Intervention Specialist will provide high quality evidence based instructional practices, researched based interventions, and track student progress towards proficiency in reading and mathematics. The Intervention Specialist will also support data-driven decision making as part of the professional learning community process to guide and differentiate instruction based on learner needs. During this time, the Intervention Specialist will be expected to provide student data to school teams and participate in decisions about student progress. This would include proficiency in student data management systems such as NWEA-MAP, RBG3 Reading Assessments, and the English Language Arts Program Assessment Tools. When applying for a certificated licensed position, candidates must meet the position requirements as listed on the appropriate position vacancy announcement.The Job Functions:The Intervention Specialist will work closely with the school administration, Professional Development Staff, Curriculum Coordinators, Instructional Coaches, and Classroom Teachers to establish effective evidence-based instructional practices that will have an impact on student achievement.Essential Duties and Job Responsibilities:Assist Schools by Providing Educational Interventions and Progress Monitoring for Students:Maintain records of interventions and progress monitoring to ensure process fidelity.Work with individual students or small groups of students to provide reading and math interventions and progress monitoring.Must be able to follow district directives in implementing this initiative including working with administrators, teachers, and paraprofessionals.Provide collaborative support to teachers through problem solving, modeling lessons, scheduling opportunities for peer observations, and conducting mini-training sessions.Utilize tracking system to maintain lists of students participating in interventions.Understand and participate in the Professional Learning Community Process. Be prepared to share student progress with the classroom teacher and grade level colleagues.Assess and monitor student growth through the collection, disaggregating, and dissemination of formal and informal assessment data, with a particular emphasis on supporting and placing ELL and special education students in the appropriate groups.Facilitate and organize the quarterly assessment process as well as the regrouping of students and determination of tutoring needs based on students' reading and mathematics mastery. Track student achievement data, maintain and organize student achievement data, reading group assignments, reading group rosters, tutoring schedules and assignments. Reading mastery levels are tracked quarterly using the Grade Summary Form.Become an active member of the School Leadership Team. May include but not limited to site intervention programs such as tutoring and other remediation opportunities.Communicate all student progress with parents, staff, other school leaders, and the Ed Services Office.Monitor student achievement and programming to ensure that every child is making adequate progress.Supervise, manage, and schedule all tutors and/or afterschool programming.Communicate and coordinate program with other Intervention Specialists, Classroom Teachers, and Learning Strategists.Prepare student achievement data and communicate regularly with Site Administration, Curriculum Coordinators, and Instructional Coaches regarding program implementation.Develop an in-depth understanding of all the English Language Arts and math program components and their theoretical underpinnings, fully participating in all trainings, and professional development opportunities.Perform related duties and responsibilities as requested by the Site Principal.Skills:Computer skills: facility with word processing, spreadsheet, and email programs.Internet savvy.Organized and data savvy.Written and oral communication skills.Multi-tasking abilities.Well-respected member of school staff.Understanding of Coaching; coaching abilities.Reading and writing specializations preferred.Understanding of formative & summative assessment required by CCSD.Content Knowledge:Knowledge of MAP assessment. Must be able to navigate website, download data, and provide instruction to others on gathering data and using data to provide instructional interventions.Knowledge of state writing traits and corresponding rubrics.Knowledge of state mandated assessments and data associated with those assessments. Must be able to support teachers across content areas to utilize this data to support student learning in each classroom.Learner-Centered mindset to support unit design and development. This includes establishing learning targets, SMART goals, and assessment development.Knowledge of the co-teaching model to provide services to ESL and special education students. The Carson City School District utilizes this model to provide services and the Intervention Specialists must understand these practices and be able to support teacher teams as they do this collaborative classroom work.A deep understanding of best practices including differentiated instruction to meet the needs of special populations including IEP and LEP subgroups.The candidate must be highly skilled in the area of differentiated instruction and the MTSS model.Knowledge of Content area literacy and strategies that can be used by teachers to allow students of various reading levels to interact with the text.Professional Integrity:* The students of the school must come first.
