Summary:
The Quality Engineer is responsible for analyzing current processes to identify opportunities for cost reduction and efficiency improvement. This role involves investigating root causes of problems and developing and implementing corrective and preventative measures as needed.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Technical lead, support, and advisor for quality-related issues in the inspections and operations team.
Conduct quality engineering reviews of design documentation, including vendor quality manuals and company quality records, to ensure compliance with specified requirements.
Support the development, implementation, and management of quality control systems to ensure the continuous production of advanced composites and applications, consistent with established standards, customer specifications, and production goals.
Assist in internal and external quality audits.
Collaborate with production teams to maintain process controls and identify improvement opportunities.
Utilize quality tools such as MSA, PPAP, APQP, SPC, FMEA, and others in process reviews and implementation.
Lead the Material Review Board (MRB) program, including investigations, documentation, and implementation of actions.
Assist in managing quality teams, MRB processes, and other quality initiatives.
Support document control processes.
Conduct supplier audits and assessments.
Lead and participate in manufacturing initiatives, including continuous improvement projects (e.g., Kaizen), corrective action responses (8D), APQP for new product launches, PPAP submissions, customer visits, supplier management activities (including visits), training of skilled personnel, and data analysis to enhance quality functions.
Promote quality awareness throughout the organization.
Collaborate with customers to understand their requirements and ensure products meet or exceed expectations.
Required Skills, Experience, and Education:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, quality assurance, or a related field.
5 years’ experience in a structured manufacturing environment, with specific inspection support responsibilities.
ASQ CQE Certification will be considered with other degrees.
Additional ASQ or Six Sigma Certification is preferred but not required.
High level of understanding and interpretation of GD&T.
Proven experience in quality engineering or similar roles.
Strong knowledge and understanding of quality standards.
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Work Environment and Schedule:
The primary work environment is in the production area and/or lab setting, involving product handling, tool usage, and daily report writing. Full-time schedule Monday – Friday, hours dependent on operational needs. Some travel and/or extended hours may be required for special project needs.
