LOCATIONSAMUEL MAHELONA MEM HOSP | Plant Maintenance POSITION STATUS: 1.0 | Permanent SALARY RANGE: BU01 | BC10 SALARY RATE: $72,948.00 (Annual Salary) based on the FTE JOB DUTIES: This position is regional and is located in the Maintenance department of the Hawai'i Health Systems Corporation (HHSC) Kaua'i Region, a public benefit corporation of the State of Hawai'i. The HHSC Kaua'i Region encompasses Kaua'i Veterans Memorial Hospital (KVMH) and Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital (SMMH), both designated as critical access hospitals (CAH), as well as the Kaua'i Region Clinics and its affiliated entities. The Maintenance department provides technical expertise in the design, planning, and construction of building projects, ensuring the facility's physical plant and equipment meet operational needs. Responsibilities include maintaining buildings and equipment, conducting repairs, ensuring proper electrical and utility services, maintaining grounds and landscaping, operating boilers, conducting fire inspections, and upholding a clean and sanitary facility. The primary responsibility of this position is to execute skilled mechanical repair work, focusing on the adjustment, maintenance, and repair of gasoline and motorized equipment. Responsibilities include conducting both major and minor mechanical repairs on gasoline and motorized equipment; providing instruction or supervision to assistants as needed. This role may also include performing additional related mechanical tasks as necessary to support the region's operations and other assigned duties. The position may require working shifts, weekends, holidays, and irregular or extended hours. Additionally, travel to other facilities within the region may be necessary to address operational needs. This position reports to the Institutional Facilities Superintendent II, position number 60260, or their designee. THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS ARE: Applicants must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experiences may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experiences are based on a 40-hour work week. EDUCATION: None required. High school diploma preferred. EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: (1) Four years of full-time work experience in or successful completion of a four-year apprenticeship program for an auto mechanic in motor equipment repair work under a journeyman mechanic, or (2) any equivalent combination of experience and training. CERTIFICATION: Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification is desired. SELECTIVE CERTIFICATION: Possession of a current, valid State of Hawai'i type #3 motor vehicle operator's license. DESIRED SKILLS: KNOWLEDGE OF: Practices, tools, materials, and equipment used in the automotive mechanic trade; shop practices and methods; occupational hazards and safety measures applicable to the trade; principles of internal combustion engines and automotive parts and adjustment of specific types and makes of motorized equipment and accessories. ABILITY TO: Operate motorized equipment; estimate material, parts, and labor necessary to perform an overhaul job; operate the various machines and equipment used in adjusting, maintaining and repairing motorized equipment; locate and adjust mechanical defects and make necessary repairs to motorized equipment; do welding and simple sheet metal and blacksmith work; make working sketches and drawings; give and receive both oral and written instructions.
