Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate.Endorsement in Special Education SA, SE, SM, or SV.Teacher Consultant Approval, current or eligible.Ability to support high school curriculum including Algebra 1 & 2, Geometry.Must meet or exceed requirements specified with NCA Standards for Accreditation and No Child Left Behind.Demonstrates considerable knowledge of special education rules, guidelines and procedures.Demonstrates professional and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with all students, parents and school Personnel.Demonstrates strong oral and written communication skills.Demonstrates strong organizational and management skills.Demonstrates strong consultation skills for supporting special education skills in inclusive settings.Demonstrates expertise in collaborative teaching to support special education students in inclusive settings.RESPONSIBILITIES: Duties of this job include, but are not limited to:Provide consultative support to the general education teachers through routinely scheduled consultation related to the progress of identified students in the resource room and general education classes.Manage student behaviors and maximize student engagement/achievement.Facilitate open, continuous communication with general education staff, administrators and parents.Develop, coordinate and conduct REEDs, METs, IEPs, FBA/BIPs, MDRs and Transition Plans.Administer and translate comprehensive achievement testing for annual and three-year reevaluations with a variety of assessments including, but not limited to: WRAT, Woodcock-Johnson III.Maintain accurate and complete records, according to district policies/procedures and IDEA law.Develop and implement Functional Behavioral Assessments and Behavioral Intervention Plans.Attend all Special Education and building staff meetings and professional development.Adhere to policies of the Westwood Community Board of Education.Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Special Education Director or Building Principal.NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESDeep understanding of multi-disciplinary project-based learning and experienced in engaging students in hands-on learning while maintaining academic rigor.Skilled in interdisciplinary planning, collaborates with colleagues, and demonstrates ability to work well with a wide range of constituents (colleagues, parents, students, board members, etc.).Able to lead diverse learners and well-versed in instructional strategies for serving students of different skill levels in the same classroom.Deep understanding of data-driven decision making and formative assessment used to plan and modify instructional practices.Experienced in integrating technology into their teaching and can support student learning using technology.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogyKnowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and studentsAbility and patience to work interactively with studentsSkill in organization, time management, communication, and interpersonal skillsAbility to deliver teaching instruction in accordance with improved curriculum and standardsExcellent skills in verbal and written communicationAbility to understand the individual needs of each studentAbility to effectively use Google Suite and the student information system MiStarAbility to take accurate and timely attendanceAbility to update grades no later than 2 days after an assignment has been given to studentsAbility to check and respond to email at least 3 times a day - before school, during prep, and after schoolSalary:Salary to be according to the current salary schedule for Westwood North Academy.Terms of Employment:Ten-month school yearHow to ApplyApply online at: https://www.westwoodschools.net/apps/pages/ and click the "Job Opportunities" tab.Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
