Assess the educational needs of BISD students. Provide diagnostic information and work cooperatively with instructional personnel to provide the most appropriate programs for students with disabilities.Assist as a member of the Admission, Review, and Dismissal Committee in the appropriate educational placement of the child for special education services, in annual review of this placement, in continual support to the classroom teacher receiving the child, and in dismissing a child from the program when the child no longer requires these services.QUALIFICATIONS:Education/Certification:Master's degreeDiagnostician CertificationValid Texas Teaching CertificateSpecial Knowledge/Skills:* Knowledge of current assessment techniques* Effective interpersonal skillsExperience:* Three years special education teaching experience preferredMAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:Instructional ManagementEvaluate students' progress on a regular, systematic basis, and use the ?ndings to make instructional programs and services more e?ective.Assist in the implementation of modi?cations required for special education students in the regular classroom.Assist teachers in designing learning experiences for students.E?ectively interpret the philosophy and rationale for special education services to campus level sta? through in-service, sta? meetings, and conferencesSchool/Organizational ClimateShare responsibility for ensuring con?dentiality of pupil folders and for the continual updating of the con?dential audit folders.Provide consultation to all sta? members working with pupils receiving special services.Demonstrate skill in con?ict resolution with administrators, parents, teachers, sta?, and community.Employ an e?ective communication process that includes listening to all constituents.Ensure con?dentiality for student information.School/Organizational Improvement* Assess and respond to needs related to one's job responsibilities.* Develop (as necessary), maintain, and utilize appropriate information systems and records necessary for attainment of the school's/district's and overall school improvement e?orts.Personnel Management* Demonstrate skill in coaching sta?/peers; provide technical assistance to the instructional sta? concerning the teaching/learning process.* Provide input relative to personnel, strengths, and weaknesses in various instructional arrangements.Administration and Fiscal/FacilitiesMaintain accurate data for departmental reporting purposes.Maintain complete and accurate audit ?les.Meet timelines as indicated by state and federal mandates.Complete forms according to department guidelines.Implement policies and procedures as established.Accept completed referrals and discuss current needs of the student prior to testing.Promptly assess students referred for special education.E?ectively coordinate the scheduling of ARD meetings.Interpret test scores to the ARD committee in such a way that all members understand the nature of the student's strengths and weaknesses.Make recommendations for meeting the instructional needs of students based on assessment information.Provide further assessment for students when appropriate.Promptly complete referral information on students in need of psychological/medical testing or evaluation by related service personnel.Student ManagementDevelop and communicate school guidelines for student conduct e?ectively to students, sta?, and parents.Promote collaborative teaming by working with faculty and encouraging student/parent input to develop a more positive school climate.Enhance feedback skills by conducting conferences with parents, students, and teachers concerning vital issues.School/Community Relations* Emphasize and nurture two-way communication between the school and the community.* Involve students, parents, and others from the community in serving the school's program as volunteers, advisors, and aides.Professional Growth and DevelopmentConduct oneself in a professional, ethical manner, in accordance with generally accepted community standards.Take the initiative to develop needed professional skills appropriate to jobPerform duties in a professional, ethical, and responsible manner as de?ned in the TEA Code of Ethics for Educators.Perform other duties as assignedWORKING CONDITIONS:Mental DemandsMaintain emotional control under stressWork with frequent interruptionsOccasional prolonged or irregular hours of workPhysical Demands* Moderate lifting and carrying, reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, repetitive hand motions; frequent bending and stoopingEnvironmental Demands* Normal office environment* Regular districtwide travel to multiple work locations as assignedThe State Board for Educator Certification will require all first time applicants for an initial credential to be fingerprinted as part of a national criminal background check.
