As we continue to grow, we are seeking a results-driven and strategic-minded R&D Mechanical Engineer III to join our team and play a crucial role in driving our product design, development, prototyping and testing efforts.Position Overview: We are looking for a talented and motivated R&D Mechanical Engineer III to work with the R&D team to utilize our patented and proprietary Chemical-Mechanical Polishing (CMP) surface optimization process technology to deliver optimized surgical cutting edges that minimize tissue trauma and improve instrument performance. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on, resourceful, and highly independent problem solver with strong technical skills, experience, and aptitude to lead small to medium sized projects through the design, development, and final assembly/build process. This position offers a unique opportunity to support the direction of the company’s growth and truly be on the “cutting edge” of a technology that is destined to define a new standard of care for surgical patients, healthcare providers worldwide.This is a fully on-site position with some flexibility of working hours.Key Responsibilities:Lead/Assist in the design & development of mechanical components and systems using SolidWorks.Spec and procure all needed components – OTS or custom as required.Design and 3D print components as needed w/ in house printers.Support prototype fabrication, testing, and validation activities.Conduct engineering calculations and simulations to support design decisions.Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Business Development, Marketing, Operations as well as external customer technical team members.Prepare technical documentation, reports, and presentations.Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and company policies.Ability to interact with customers through voice of the customer gathering, troubleshooting, and suggested product improvements.Ability to independently manage small to medium projects from start to finish.Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.An individual that can handle a significant degree of autonomy and independence – with the ability to take a problem, understand, design, build, test, and solve engineering problems in ambiguous situations.Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience, including but not limited to: troubleshooting, tearing down, repairing and fixing mechanical devices, mechanisms and/or machinery.Interest and working knowledge of blade making (Bladesmithing), CMP, sharpening, and polishing is desirable.5-7 years of relevant experience, preferred in the medical device space.Solid proficiency in 3D modeling tools (SolidWorks) and basic knowledge of manufacturing and test fixture development.Possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate test results including utilizing statistical evaluation techniques to provide significance of test results.Highly driven and self-motivated individual that can take minimal direction/input, ask valuable questions, and drive the task to conclusion.Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.The ability to efficiently analyze a given problem, brainstorm solutions w/ teammates and create a basic requirements outline that the final design or fixture needs to meet.Eagerness to learn and grow in a fast-paced engineering environment.Demonstrated proficiency in report writing and documentation of technically focused activities.Other Experience or QualificationsExperience w/ 3D printing, laser cutting and manual machiningPrototyping design/build experienceWoodworking equipment experienceWelding, grinding experienceBasic motion control design and implementation (servo, stepper motors...etc)A good sense of humorIf you are passionate about delivering patient-centric improvements in the medical device technology industry, we invite you to apply and be a key contributor to our company's success.Company DescriptionAt Planatome, our goal is to bring existing medical tools & technology to a never-before-seen level of performance that delivers extraordinary benefits.Company DescriptionAt Planatome, our goal is to bring existing medical tools & technology to a never-before-seen level of performance that delivers extraordinary benefits.
