About the role:
As a Software Developer at NSWC Dahlgren Division you will apply engineering and software development principles to build and maintain software used by US warfighters. You will develop user-facing interfaces and backend components for the Battle Management System (BMS) portfolio (AFSOC fielded systems), support local and field installations, and collaborate across disciplines to ensure reliable operational performance.
Key responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain software in C++ and/or C# for Windows environments.
Implement and execute unit and integration tests; participate in code reviews and continuous integration pipelines.
Support installation, integration testing, and performance assessment at local and external sites.
Apply secure software development practices and follow locally prescribed processes.
Analyze operational performance, collect feedback from users/field teams, and recommend improvements.
Participate in regular development team meetings and coordinate across engineering, test, and support teams.
Minimum qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related STEM field.
Proficiency in C++ and/or C# development on Windows (Visual Studio experience preferred).
Experience with software testing (unit/integration), debugging, and performance analysis.
Strong teamwork and written/verbal communication skills.
U.S. Citizenship required (DoD work environment).
Preferred qualifications
Prior experience in defense, real-time systems, or embedded/mission-critical software.
Experience with GUI frameworks (e.g., WPF, WinForms) and/or Windows system programming.
Familiarity with version control (Git), CI/CD tools, and automated testing frameworks.
Active DoD security clearance (specify level if required) or ability to obtain one.
Experience supporting field installations or working directly with operational end users.

Pay: $82,305.00 - $156,755.00 per year
