Litigation - Civil - Legal Assistant

Legal AssistantAs a Legal Assistant, you will be responsible for performing duties utilizing legal terminology, procedures, and documents. May also conduct research to support a legal proceeding.Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the following essential functions:Draft and file legal documents such as trust wills or other related documentsPrepare probate formsAssist with assessment of creditor claims and collection and liquidation of assetsMaintain attorney's calendar; coordinate mediation schedulesMaintain databases of case materials and informationAssist with maintenance of files, including individual case correspondenceAct as point of contact when Attorney is unavailable; direct issues to AttorneyPrepare correspondence as neededOpen files and set up accordingly to ensure all appropriate documentation is includedClose out files when appropriatePrepare bills and submit in a timely mannerAssist with all other administrative needs including copying, filing, taking dictation, etc.Required CompetenciesEthics & IntegrityProductivity and Hard WorkEffective CommunicationAdaptabilityCommitment to ExcellenceKnowledge & SkillsPositive Interpersonal RelationshipsMinimum Qualifications2 years of experience in a legal support capacityHigh School Diploma or equivalentProficient in MS OfficeHigh degree of accuracy and attention to detailProven ability to multi-task and meet deadlines in a fast-paced and changing environment.Strong organization, including managing an attorney calendarExcellent communication skills, both written and verbalResourceful, proactive & positive attitudePreferred Skills & Experience - These are additional skills and experience that are not required to hold this position, but may provide candidates who possess them an edge over candidates who do not.3-5 years of experience with trust and estate planningAssociate in Paralegal StudiesWork EnvironmentThis job operates in a clerical office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.Physical DemandsThis is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required.
