Project Engineering Intern
1) Job Description RJ Ramos Enterprises Inc. is seeking an engaged, hands-on Project Engineer College Intern to support our commercial construction projects onsite during the summer season. You will work with project engineers, superintendents, and project managers to learn core project delivery activities—document control, field coordination, quality and safety support, cost and schedule tracking, and project closeout.In this role, you’ll gain practical experience with drawings and specifications, understand how field and office teams collaborate, and learn how to plan work for high-quality outcomes. You’ll participate in site walks, trade coordination meetings, and daily huddles; help keep logs and trackers current; assist with meeting minutes and look-ahead schedules; and contribute to punch, commissioning, and closeout efforts. Throughout the internship, you’ll receive professional mentorship focused on building technical skills, communication, and sound judgment—so you leave with a stronger resume, real project contributions, and confidence working in a fast-paced construction environment.2) Job Responsibilities Document Control & Technical Support· Create, track, and route RFIs; follow up to drive timely responses.· Manage submittals (receive, review for completeness, route for design approval, log status, distribute approved packages).· Maintain up-to-date drawing sets and specifications (posting addenda, bulletins, and revisions).· Assist with as-built documentation and closeout manuals.Field Coordination & Site Support· Join site walks to observe progress, quality, and logistics; document with notes/photos.· Support punchlist creation, distribution, and verification of completion.· Participate in trade coordination and daily huddles; capture action items and owners.Schedule & Cost Tracking· Update two-to-four-week look-ahead schedules in coordination with the field team.· Maintain procurement logs and highlight long-lead or at-risk items.· Assist with quantity takeoffs, change event tracking, and basic cost logs.Quality & Safety· Help implement the project quality plan; record QA/QC observations and checklists.· Participate in safety orientations/meetings; document safety observations and improvements.· Ensure proper PPE usage and support site logistics to keep work areas clean and organized.Meetings & Communication· Prepare meeting agendas and minutes with clear action items, owners, and due dates.· Facilitate communication between field and office teams, design partners, and trade partners.· Escalate issues early and follow through to resolution.Tools & Systems· Use and learn standard construction software (e.g., Microsoft Office/365, Bluebeam, Procore, or similar) to keep logs, markups, and reports accurate and current.3) Qualifications Eligibility· Current students enrolled in a 4-year college or university, community/junior college, vocational/technical/trade school, or a graduate program.· Pursuing a degree in Construction Management, Civil/Mechanical/Electrical/Industrial/Construction/Architectural Engineering, Architecture, or a related field.Minimum Requirements· High school diploma or GED.· Must be authorized to work in the U.S. (sponsorship not available).· Ability to pass RJ Ramos’ drug and alcohol test.· Demonstrated interest or background in construction methods and materials (coursework, labs, clubs, work experience, or projects).· Strong written and verbal communication skills with a collaborative, team-first mindset.· Basic proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook; ability to learn project management platforms quickly.· On-site availability for the full-time summer duration.Preferred Qualifications· Experience with plan reading, Bluebeam markups, or project management software (e.g., Procore, PlanGrid, MS Project/Primavera P6).· Coursework or exposure to estimating, scheduling, BIM coordination, or MEP systems.· Detail-oriented, organized, and proactive with strong follow-through.4) Physical Requirements This role is primarily onsite at active construction projects. You will spend time in both field and office settings. Field work may involve standing and walking for extended periods; climbing stairs and navigating uneven surfaces; occasional use of ladders (with appropriate training and supervision); wearing required PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, high-visibility vest, gloves, appropriate footwear); and exposure to outdoor weather, dust, and construction noise. Occasional lifting or carrying of items (up to 25 lbs) such as documents, samples, or small tools may be required.
