Senior Network Engineer (Senior IT Systems Specialist) - Information Technology - Enterprise Network Services
About This PositionThe City of Phoenix, Information Technology Services department is seeking an experienced Senior Network Engineer (Senior IT Systems Specialist) to join our Enterprise Network Services team. As a Senior Network Engineer, you will design, implement, and support the City's enterprise datacenter network infrastructure, serving as the subject matter expert for F5 load balancing technologies and ensuring high availability for business critical applications. This position will work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver robust, scalable, and secure network solutions across hybrid environments.Key Responsibilities And Duties IncludeDesign, implement, and maintain enterprise datacenter network infrastructure, including Cisco Nexus core switches.Configure, optimize, and troubleshoot F5 load balancers (LTM, ASM).Manage and support Internet connectivity and cloud network circuits across hybrid environments.Monitor network performance, ensure high availability, and uphold security best practices.Lead root cause analysis for critical incidents and implement permanent corrective actions.Partner with application, security, and cloud teams for seamless integration.Develop and maintain network documentation, standards, and procedures.Please note: This role requires the flexibility to participate in an on-call rotation in order to provide advanced escalation support. This is a hybrid position and is expected to be in-office 2 to 3 days a week, as needed.IDEAL CANDIDATESkilled in automation and continuous improvement.Strong understanding of network security principles.Familiarity with cloud networking (AWS, and Azure).Excellent communication, documentation and problem-solving skills.Proactive, detail-oriented, and comfortable collaborating across teams to deliver solutions that meet business objectives.Proficiency with network monitoring and troubleshooting tools (SolarWinds, Catalyst Center, Splunk, NetBrain, Wireshark).Strong expertise in datacenter networking, core switching, and application delivery technologies.Ability to:Troubleshoot complex issues and design resilient, high-performing architectures.Lead projects and mentor junior team members.Resolve complex network issues in a timely manner.SALARYPay Range: $93,121.60 to $131,040.00 annually.Hiring Range: $93,121.60 to $118,872.00 annually.Pay Range ExplanationPay range is the entire compensation range for the position classification.Hiring range is an estimate of where you can receive an offer. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Any records returned will be reviewed to determine the candidate's suitability for the job.For information regarding pre-screening and driving positions, click here.The City job description can be found here.Preferred QualificationsThe minimum qualifications listed above, plus:Five years of experience in enterprise networking, with at least three years in datacenter environments.Experience in/with:Routing and switching protocols (BGP, OSPF, VLAN, VPC).Configuring and maintaining Cisco Nexus platforms (2K, 5K, 7K, 9K).F5 load balancers or other enterprise load balancing technologies (NetScaler, NGINX etc.).Configuring and maintaining Cisco ASR and ISR series routers, access layer switches and switch stacks.Equipment lifecycle management, including hardware replacement and upgrades.Network automation (Python, Ansible).Firewall technologies and advanced security features.Layer 7 network proxy technologies for application delivery.RECRUITMENT DATESRecruitment closes May 31 , 2026.
