Assistant Dean of Student Affairs

Summary:The Assistant Dean for Student Affairs provides leadership and oversight of the student conduct process, emphasizing education, equity, and student success. This role supports a diverse student body—often including adult learners, part-time students, and first-generation students—by ensuring conduct processes are fair, accessible, and aligned with the community college mission.Working Hours: Specific work hours to be agreed upon by the supervisor and employee prior to the onset of employment.Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Not an all-inclusive list of duties): Manage the student conduct process from intake through resolution, including sanctions and follow-up. Use a case management approach that connects students to support services (advising, counseling, basic needs resources). Promote accountability while supporting student persistence and retention.Maintain accurate, confidential records in compliance with applicable regulations (e.g., Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act).Develop workshops or interventions on topics such as academic integrity, conflict resolution, and classroom behavior.Review and update Care Team response manual and conduct policies to ensure clarity, accessibility, and alignment with the college mission and values.Work closely with academic affairs, campus safety, disability services, and advising. Serve as a resource for faculty and staff managing behavioral concerns.Travel Requirements:Limited local travel on occasion. Must have ready access to transportation.Supervisory Responsibilities: Directly supervise full-time, regular part-time and other part-time employees assigned to the position. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with College policies, Collective Bargaining Agreements and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance, and taking corrective action with employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.Qualifications:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Knowledge of Ellucian Colleague or other administrative software a plus.Communication Skills: Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
