Secondary Special Education (ESS) Instructional Coordinator2025- 2026 Job DescriptionJob Summary:Under direct supervision of the Secondary Principal, the Special Education Instructional Coordinator will support special education instruction designed to meet State of Nevada as well as federal standards for secondary special education students at Amplus Academy in grades 6-12. The role of the Special Education Instructional Coordinator is to be an educational leader and advocate for students with disabilities within the school setting. They will actively support the assigned campus(es) to ensure that a strong commitment to improving academic and social achievement of students with disabilities is evident. The Special Education Instructional Coordinator collaborates with appropriate individuals so that the educational needs of students with disabilities are appropriately addressed and in compliance with school procedures as well as applicable federal and state laws. The Special Education Instructional Coordinator coordinates the IEP teams, reviews IEP plans, and meets other requirements specified below.The Special Education Instructional Coordinator is expected to adhere to Amplus Academy's professional standards as well as Nevada Department of Education licensure standards. Amplus Academy is a classical education charter school located in the southwest area of Las Vegas; Amplus Academy has two campuses serving Kindergarten-12th grade students.Terms of Employment:185 contracted work daysSalary: The compensation for this position is in alignment with the Amplus Governing Board approved Salary Schedule; Salary Schedule based on years experience and degree held. Compensation for all positions are determined by the Governing Board and Administration of Amplus Academy. Consideration is given for experience and specialized skills in determining salary.Salary Range: $51,681- $80,000 with 100% Employer Paid PERSSupervisory Responsibilities:Works with supervising administrators to interviews, hire, and train special education teachers and program staffSupervise Special Program Teaching Assistants (SPTAs)Conducts coaching evaluations that are timely and constructiveDuties/Responsibilities:Works with Principals and other school administrator to develop and execute a special education program that focuses on integration, inclusion, and learning opportunities for all studentsSupports, mentors, and models best practice instructional strategies and techniquesExhibits a strong commitment to improving academic and social achievement for students with disabilitiesEnsures that policies and procedures are implemented and performed in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulationsEffectively communicates special education procedures and best practices to administration and staff through regular staff meetingsFacilitates staff development activities related to students with disabilities for administration, licensed, and support staffInforms site administration of special education concerns/issues that may be supervisory in natureAssists division and region teams, administration, licensed, and support staff with the effective implementation of federal, state, and local mandatesEnsures that students with disabilities are receiving a free and appropriate education in the least restrictive environmentAssists parents in problem solving and acquiring the necessary knowledge and skills to support the development and implementation of their child's Individualized Education Plan (IEP)Communicates with parents, caregivers, and other stakeholders to explain educational programs and to answer questionsProvides staff with information on scientifically-based instruction, positive behavioral supports (including Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), etc.), and other effective classroom management techniques.Assists licensed staff in providing technical information, preparing IEPs, and/or referrals for additional/alternative academic and/or positive behavioral supportsMonitors, on a regularly scheduled basis, confidential folders and IEPs to ensure accuracy, completeness, and complianceMaintains confidentiality and organization of records through observable procedures consistent with division and site directivesCollaborates with licensed staff and administration when designing class schedules as it relates to students with disabilitiesBuilds and maintains relationships in the community to foster understanding of and support for special education programsAssists IEP teams in the development and implementation of transition plansEffectively uses and train building staff to use the divisions electronic IEP systemWorks cooperatively with administration regarding compliance issues and provide necessary support to remedy the non-complianceWorks professionally with administrators, staff, parents, and the communityTravel between the two campuses as needed to coordinate between the other SEICs and Special Education personnelMaintains current knowledge of laws and regulations related to special educationParticipates in other job-related duties and activities related to the position, as assignedInforms, creates, and/or supports school policy regarding students with IEPsRequired Skills/Abilities:Demonstrate ability to support, mentor, and model best practice instructional strategies specifically designed for students with disabilitiesDemonstrate strong knowledge of federal, state, and local mandates and procedures as it relates to students with disabilitiesDemonstrate strong knowledge of special education programs and services in Amplus Academy and the communityDemonstrate effectiveness in planning, organizing, and coordinating meaningful activities for appropriate individuals and/or groups in a pleasant, professional mannerExhibit proficiency in the use of the Amplus Academy's electronic IEP system using Infinite CampusLead professional development activities for staff as they relate to special educationWork cooperatively with students, parents, peers, administration, and community membersExcellent interpersonal skills with the proven ability to maintain professionalism and tact in high-stress situationsAbility to negotiate with people with different or opposing viewpointsMaintain accurate and complete records as required by law and Amplus Academy policyParticipate as an active member with other faculty and staffWork in a collegial manner with all Amplus Academy staff to provide students an appropriate education in the least restrictive environmentMaintain and improve professional competence as a mentor and supervisorExcellent organizational skills and attention to detailExcellent verbal and written communication skills with students, staff, parents and other stakeholdersCreative analytical and problem-solving skillsProficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Classroom or related softwareEducation and Experience:Bachelor's degree and Nevada Special Education License required, Masters degree preferredCrisis Prevention Institute (CPI) crisis intervention training and CPR/ First Aid training requiredAt least five (5) years experience in special education, preferably in a supervisory roleWorking knowledge of Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) requiredPhysical
