About the Job This is not a traditional Director of Accounting role.We are rebuilding our accounting function to be lean, highly efficient, and technology-driven. The Director of Accounting will lead this transformation—owning core accounting operations while implementing automation and AI to reduce manual work, improve accuracy, and increase financial visibility.You will operate as a hands-on leader and systems builder, responsible for designing processes that scale with a small, high-performing team.This role reports to executive leadership and partners closely across Finance, Operations, and GTM teams.What You’ll OwnAccounting Operations & CloseLead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes with a focus on speed, accuracy, and scalabilityOwn general ledger, reconciliations, and financial statement preparationEnsure compliance with U.S. GAAP, including SaaS revenue recognition (ASC 606)Establish tight controls and audit-ready processesAI & Automation (Core to the Role)Identify and eliminate manual accounting workflows through automation and AIImplement tools and processes that improve close timelines, reconciliations, and reportingEvaluate and deploy solutions that integrate with NetSuite and adjacent systemsDrive a long-term roadmap for a tech-enabled accounting functionSystems & Process ArchitectureOwn and optimize NetSuite (including configuration, workflows, and reporting)Design scalable processes across billing, revenue recognition, and financial reportingBuild and maintain integrations with systems such as Salesforce and payroll platformsCreate clear documentation for all key processes and controlsFinancial Reporting & VisibilityDeliver accurate, timely financial statements and reporting packagesImprove clarity and usability of financial reporting for leadershipSupport investor and board-level reporting as neededAudit, Compliance & ControlsLead external audits and serve as primary point of contact for auditorsStrengthen internal controls and ensure compliance across all accounting functionsOversee regulatory, tax, and reporting requirementsLeadership & Team DevelopmentLead a lean accounting team (Director + 1) with a player-coach mindsetSet clear expectations, drive accountability, and develop team capabilitiesFoster a culture of ownership, precision, and continuous improvementWhat Success Looks Like (First 6–12 Months)Reduced close timeline and improved accuracy of financial reportingAutomated key manual processes across reconciliations, reporting, and workflowsEstablished clean, scalable accounting processes and documentationStrengthened compliance and eliminated key risk areasBuilt a high-functioning, efficient accounting teamRequirementsRequired Experience7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership rolesProven experience in a SaaS or subscription-based (B2B) environmentStrong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and revenue recognition (ASC 606)Deep experience with NetSuite (beyond basic usage—configuration and optimization)Demonstrated experience improving accounting processes and close cyclesHands-on experience implementing automation or AI within accounting or finance workflowsProven ability to reduce manual work and improve efficiency through technologyExperience evaluating, selecting, and implementing tools or systems enhancementsAbility to clearly articulate impact (e.g., time savings, accuracy improvements, scalability)Candidates without direct, applied AI/automation experience will not be considered.Preferred ExperienceCPA certificationExperience in mid-sized, high-growth companies (50–300 employees)Experience integrating NetSuite with Salesforce or similar systemsBackground in audit and investor reportingWhat We’re Looking ForSystems thinker who can build and scale processes—not just maintain themHands-on operator who leads from the frontStrong problem solver who identifies inefficiencies and fixes themComfortable working in a fast-moving, evolving environmentClear communicator who can translate financial data into business insightsAdditional RequirementsCandidates will be subject to a background check in accordance with federal and state regulations.Equal Employment OpportunitySalient Systems is an equal opportunity employer that is committed to diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
