Seasonal Volunteer and Gardens Coordinator

Position SummaryWolfe's Neck Center is seeking a Seasonal Volunteer & Gardens Coordinator to oversee and maintain garden spaces while coordinating volunteer projects that support our mission. This role manages daily garden operations, leads and supports volunteers, and fosters a welcoming, inclusive, and productive volunteer environment. The Coordinator serves as a bridge between the Stewardship team, volunteers, and organizational goals, ensuring garden spaces are well maintained, accessible, and aligned with sustainable practices. This is a Seasonal position that runs from approximately April 1 - November 1.ResponsibilitiesVolunteer ManagementRecruit, train, schedule, and support volunteers for garden and landscape projectsCoordinate daily and weekly volunteer workdays and special project daysDelegate tasks effectively based on skill level and project needsMaintain volunteer records, track hours, and assist with reportingPlan and support volunteer appreciation and recognition activitiesGarden Operations & MaintenanceOversee daily maintenance of garden spaces around the Little River campus and at specified seasonal beds throughout the WNC property, including beds, paths, and common areasImplement seasonal maintenance and planting plans, prioritizing native plants that enhance biodiversity and create pollinator habitat to the greatest extent possibleManage garden plots and shared spaces in alignment with established guidelinesEnsure availability and proper use of resources such as soil, compost, water, tools, and suppliesEnsure gardens comply with safety, sustainability, and organizational policiesCommunicationMaintain clear, consistent communication with volunteers and staff via email, phone, signage, and in-person interactionsShare schedules, updates, and expectations in a timely mannerAddress questions, concerns, and conflicts professionally and constructivelyReporting & AdministrationTrack volunteer participation, hours, and project outcomesAssist with documentation related to donations or supplies when applicableProvide regular updates and reports to supervisorsQualificationsStrong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skillsDemonstrated passion for gardening and community engagementExperience working with or leading volunteersAbility to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physical labor (lifting, bending, standing for extended periods)Strong problem-solving, leadership, and project management skillsFamiliarity with regenerative agriculture, gardening practices, and environmental stewardshipComfort using basic technology and software such as Google SuiteAbility to work independently while collaborating effectively with a teamThe requirements listed above are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to perform this job successfully.
