But we all share one goal: to improve the world responsibly and safely by supporting the science that informs decision makers and protects Earth.KBR’s Science and Space division is seeking a Software Engineer/Web Developer to support our Technical Support Services Contract (TSSC) at the United States Geological Survey (USGS) Earth Resources Observation & Science (EROS) Center (http://eros.usgs.gov/) near Sioux Falls, SD (http://www.siouxfalls.org).This position is for an entry to mid-level Software Engineer with a Web Development background to join our talented team in creating exciting, cutting-edge web-based mapping tools for Science projects that serve a variety of communities including wildland fire management, drought monitoring, and land cover mapping.Position SummaryTitle: Full Stack Software EngineerResponsibilitiesDevelop and maintain websites and mapping applications for visualizing and distributing geospatial data.Develop Python scripts that produce geospatial data products.Support a diverse array of technologies including, but not limited to PHP, Python, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and XML.Interact with a skilled web development team that supports the USGS EROS Integrated Science Applications Branch.Minimum RequirementsThis position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a national agency check and background investigation after hire to obtain credentials for facility access and user accountsEducation: Must minimally hold a software engineering or computer science bachelor’s degreeYears of Experience: Must have minimum 3-5 years of recent and related work experienceExperience with web design, administration, and database-driven applicationsExperience with JavaScript frameworks (such as React, Jquery, OpenLayers and Leaflet), and strong proficiency with HTML/CSSExperience with Python and PHPExperience with databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL)Experience with security conceptsExperience with collaboration softwareExcellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skillsAbility to work independently and as part of a teamWell versed in software engineering methodology and processesAreas Of Desired Experience & SkillsFamiliarity with a cloud provider/concepts (like AWS or Azure)Familiarity with Kubernetes or other container knowledgeFamiliarity with requirements and design analysisExperience with testing and configuration management tools such as GitExperience with geospatial tools (commercial or open source), including analysis, visualization, or data handling workflowsKnowledge of OGC standards (WMS, WFS, WCS, WPS) and OGC APIsFamiliarity with projections, reference systems, and spatial data transformationsExperience and/or Education in lieu of these qualifications will be reviewed for applicability to meet these requirements.Work LocationThis position supports a team anchored in Sioux Falls, SD, and is offered in a hybrid remote/onsite work environment. Fully remote work will be considered for the right candidate.Three years of continuous residency in the US for issuance of a Government Security credential is required.KBR partners with several other companies to fulfill its requirements as a government contractor.
