Job Description:PURPOSEThis position is responsible for classroom instruction and training in elementary Visual Art education.ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIESDevelop and implement an engaging art curriculum for elementary students that includes drawing, painting, clay, and introductory techniques in various media.Create lesson plans aligned to state and national standards that introduce basic elements and principles of art while encouraging exploration, creativity, and self-expression.Foster a safe, inclusive, and positive classroom environment where students feel confident to try new ideas and explore their creativity.Maintain classroom materials, tools, and equipment; ensure a clean and safe art-making environment.Assess student progress through observation, projects, and portfolios, providing constructive feedback that helps students grow.Collaborate with classroom teachers and staff to integrate art projects with broader curriculum themes, supporting interdisciplinary learning.Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student progress, achievements, and any areas for improvement.Stay current on best practices in art education and explore new activities and projects to keep lessons engaging.Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establishes and communicates clear objectives to students for all lessons and units.Employs a variety of instructional techniques.Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated both individually and collaboratively.Prepares for assigned classes and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor.Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.Participate in professional development opportunities, faculty meetings, and school events as required.Collaborates with administrators, colleagues, and parents in a positive and productive manner.Strives to implement by instruction and action, the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law, District policy, and administrative regulation.Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct and develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure while maintaining order in the classroom in a fair and appropriate manner.Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for education related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and/or volunteer(s) where applicable.Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.Perform other duties as necessary to support the mission and vision of Columbia Public School District.REPORTING RELATIONSHIPSReports To: Building Principal and District Fine Arts DirectorSupervises: N/AQUALIFICATIONSMinimum: Bachelor's degree; Missouri teacher certificate in Art K-12Preferred: Has 3 or more years of elementary art teaching experience.You are navigating off of REAP site to the district's posting.OK
