Our DoD/Aerospace client is looking to fill a Technical Writer / Subject Matter Expert (SME) / Training Specialist position that just opened in Manassas, VA. In this role, you will support U.S. Navy programs by providing technical writing, subject matter expertise, and training development focused on submarine fire control and weapons systems. To be considered, you will have a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field (or equivalent experience) along with prior Navy Fire Control Technician (FT) submarine experience and a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience. Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required at time of hire.Location: Manassas, VAPosition: Technical Writer / SME / Training Specialist (Submarine Systems)Contract: 12 -24 months with possibility of going directPay: $48.96/hourSchedule: First ShiftCLEARANCE: Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required at time of hireIn this role you will use your technical and interpersonal skills to:Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for submarine fire control and weapons systems, specifically AN/BYG1Assist in defining, reviewing, and analyzing system requirements for enhancements and modificationsDevelop, edit, and maintain operations, maintenance, and training documentationSupport Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) functions and technical documentation reviewsCreate and validate procedures for technical manuals and training materialsValidate test procedures during lab and submarine testing eventsProvide technical input to project plans, schedules, and deliverablesCollaborate with cross-functional teams and support Navy customers in lab and shipboard environmentsTravel as required to support program needsQualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical field OR equivalent experience (minimum 4 years of job-related experience)Additional 2+ years of related experience beyond degree requirements OR Master’s degreeMinimum of 6 years of relevant experience in engineering support, technical writing, or training developmentPrior Navy Fire Control Technician (FT) submarine experience requiredQualified Master Training Specialist preferredU.S. citizenship is requiredClearance Requirements:Department of Defense active Secret security clearance is required at time of hireApplicants must be eligible to obtain and maintain access to classified informationKnowledge Skills And Abilities:Hands-on experience with AN/BYG1 Submarine Combat SystemExperience developing Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETMs) using S1000DFamiliarity with DoD documentation standards such as MIL-STD-3001, MIL-STD-38784, MIL-STD-24784, and MIL-STD-40051-2CAbility to prepare documentation in multiple formats including Word, PDF, HTML, and XML/SGMLProficiency with tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, and XMLSpyStrong understanding of military and commercial system requirements and specificationsExperience with Linux/Unix environments is a plusExperience developing Navy training documentation and applying instructional design methodologiesStrong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skillsExcellent written and verbal communication skillsAbility to manage multiple projects and work in high-pressure environmentsStrong collaboration and interpersonal skillsAbout our client: Our client is a mission critical DoD – Aerospace defense contractor developing solutions that will lead, serve, and protect our country.
