The CCMA will also provide quality and comprehensive patient care as a member of a multi-disciplinary, patient-centered primary care team. This position demonstrates competency in all areas of administrative and clinical duties.Accountabilities IncludePerforms Essential Job Duties Handles protected health information (PHI) in a manner consistent with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). Updates patient medical records in EMR. Provides patient support and care via a telehealth platform. Utilizes clinical and clerical skills inputting ancillary orders into EPIC. Ensures all related reports, labs and information is filled and available in the patients’ medical records prior to their appointment. Processes prior authorizations, medical, and other related patient correspondences. Processes prescription refills as directed by a provider. Schedules and cancels medical appointments. Assists with liaising with laboratories and insurance companies. Arranges for hospital admissions and laboratory services.Receives telephone messages and provides feedback and answers to patients, providers, and pharmacy calls or routes as appropriate.Instructs patient in obtaining tests and assists with the scheduling of tests, treatments, or specialty referrals as requested by the clinic physician. Creates a customer friendly atmosphere to provide the best quality service to our patients and customers. Prepares exam and treatment rooms with necessary equipment, instruments and supplies.Ushers patient to exam room and follows the La Clinica Rooming Standards.Maintains timely flow of patients regarding acuity and communication with front office team.Initiates cleaning of equipment and patient rooms in a timely manner.Will act as a Trained Chaperone as needed.Assists the provider during exams and/or procedures.Provides treatments and administers medication and vaccines as ordered.Instructs patient education as instructed by provider.Performs point of care testing.Administers electrocardiograms (ECGs).Removes sutures and changing dressings.Sterilizes medical equipment and instruments. Demonstrates teamwork by practicing the La Clinica Mission, Values and Behavioral Standards to ensure a highly effective team. Treats all patients and customers with courtesy, respect, and prompt service.Demonstrates the ability to interact with all ages of patients at their level of comprehension, including pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric individuals. Ensures timely access to care without judgement or bias.Promotes positive working relationships and demonstrates collaborative team-oriented behaviors when working with teams, supervisors, and others.Participates in and contributes to department committees, meetings, and peer evaluations.Demonstrates flexibility and willingness to adjust workload or duties in response to unexpected changes in work volume, emergencies, staffing, and scheduling.Maintains open lines of communications, willingly sharing knowledge with others, accepting and providing constructive feedback in a supportive and non-judgmental manner.Maintains competency in job duties and demonstrates willingness to orient and train new employees.Follows La Clinica’s policies regarding work time, personal calls, breaks, and infection control. time off requests. Maintains a clean, safe, and orderly work environment Identifies and implements cost savings measures wherever possible and appropriate.Regularly assesses physical environment and takes needed action to correct any potential hazardous situations.Performs work in a consistently safe manner, including the utilization of equipment and supplies.Identifies and takes initiative to promote a safe environment using the Responsible Event ReportCollaborates with team to meet measures and metrics-quality. Reports all on the job injuries and seeks medical attention in a timely manner. Follows workflows capturing activities to meet patient engagement standards as outlined in the APCM program. QualificationsMust be able to interact with individuals from a wide range of age, ethnic, economic, cultural and social background at various levels, under stressful circumstances while exercising sound judgement, tact, and diplomacy. Be willing to engage and partner in the professional development of the Medical Assistant role at La Clinica.RequiredEducation and/or Experience:Minimum: Certified Clinical Medical Assistant – certified by the National Association of Medical Assistants (or other approved certification programs).Basic Life Support (BLS) certified by the American Heart Association (AHA).Able to type a minimum of 40 WPM.Able to use basic computer software applications.High school diploma or equivalent.PreferredCompletion of a Medical Assistant program or one-two years clinical experience in a medical office.Skilled at using electronic health records as applicable to area of work (EPIC preferred).Bilingual in English and Spanish.Language SkillsMust have the ability to communicate with clarity, both verbally and in writing; read, analyze, and interpret complex documents, regulations, policies, and procedure manuals; and create professional business documents.
