K-6 Gymnastics Instructor - Summer 2026
Normal Parks & Recreation offers a range of youth gymnastics classes for grades K-6!Teach gymnastics to 6-12 year olds at varying skill levels. Apparatuses include balance beam, vault, low barre and tumbling experience on a matted floor.The working season for this position is early June- early August. Monday/Wednesday mornings 9:00am-12:00pm.Assist with planning daily skills and activities prior to the start of each classAssist evaluating the skill level of each participantTeach participants skills on the balance beam, vault, floor and barreAssist in running a safe and organized classCommunicate effectively with participants, parents/guardians and staff regarding questions and concernsTake daily attendanceAssist with keeping storage areas clean and organizedPerform First Aid or take care of minor injuries as neededPreferred age is 16 years or olderCertification in First Aid and/or CPR is preferred (classes provided by NPRD)Successful completion of criminal background checkAbility to interact well with children ages 6-12 years oldKnowledge of skills associated with the apparatuses aboveUnderstanding of how to teach each skill at an age-appropriate levelKnowledge of how to safely spot participantsAbility to work independently with little supervisionAvailability to work from 9:00am-12:00pm, Monday/Wednesday mornings.Experience working with youth or background in field of Education, Parks & Recreation or another related fieldPrevious personal experience in gymnastics and tumbling is requiredPhysical Requirements:Ability to stand for extended periods of timeAbility squat/crouch/kneel for extended periods of time when spotting participantsPosition sometimes required the ability to lift, push and pull at least 25 lbs.Preferred personal enjoyment of gymnastics and/or tumbling
