We’re looking for a Truck & Trailer Driver / Deconstructionist to join our team in Portland, Oregon. Our offices are located in NW Portland but this position travels all over Portland and adjacent counties. This position is responsible for transporting debris from one place to another using a company truck & trailer or dump truck. Our Driver works on jobsites helping load and unload debris as well as performing Deconstructionist job tasks as needed. This job is dynamic and requires flexibility, good planning and excellent communication skills. Focus on time management, making the most practical use of trips, logistics, and drive time are essential components of this role. Our Drivers are integral components of our deconstructionist team and as such do all they can to support crew, leads and project managers in providing unparalleled support and service to all. Familiarize yourself with job sites and work alongside crew at job sites performing Deconstructionist duties as needed. Help load debris at job sites. Communicate with Crew Leads at upcoming sites to assess needs and appropriate daily schedule. Abide by a fluctuating and flexible schedule dependent on daily needs. Be responsive during off hours for questions, communications and schedule updates. Communicate proactively with Scheduler and Crew Leads on delays, estimated arrival and departure times, locations. Plan routes using maps or satellite tracking. Use all available communication tools -phone calls, text messages and Slack - to stay in constant contact with the office and Crew Lead while assessing the most efficient daily routing and disposal plans. Independent work ethic and intrinsic motivation to stay on task and proactively support co-workers is an integral part of this role. Excellent record keeping of jobsite number, debris amount, and type of material being hauled. Maintain working knowledge of various debris and recycling acceptance and costs at various facilities throughout the Portland metro area. Vehicle Maintenance and Safety Fill up on fuel, clean the truck, and wash the windows. Maintain professional vehicle appearance inside and out. Keep the truck, and associated equipment, clean and in good working order. Report to the office any incidents encountered on the road and follow Lovett accident procedures if an accident occurs. Inspect vehicle before and after the trip, and record any defects they find. Report serious mechanical problems to the appropriate personnel. Maintain safety precautions to Lovett standards including traffic laws, cone usage and high vis attire. Take special precautions while driving. Monitor road conditions and watch for traffic congestion. Monitor weekly hours and assess appropriate daily schedules based on limiting overtime hours. Keep a log of your activities. Skills and Competencies: Valid driver’s license required with the aptitude to follow all driving laws Clean driving record with no moving violations Comfortable maneuvering and parking a tractor-trailer in tight spaces Able to operate electric lift, hand trucks, pallet jacks, etc. Proficient using GPS and other routing systems An innate sense of direction Disciplined, dependable, and resourceful High level of composure and good stress management Requirements 1 year proven experience with tractor-trailer driving, required 2+ years proven experience with tractor-trailer driving, preferred 1-3+ years in deconstruction or related field preferred Proven experience at driving large vehicles on city and residential streets Enthusiasm and commitment to learn deconstruction practices, Lovett values, and safety standards Capable of lifting~50lbs, repeatedly over the course of a day; handling power tools and hand tools; prying, pulling and twisting Capable of working in sustained heat, wearing Tyvek for prolonged periods, and at physically demanding tasks such as hauling and handling debris in dusty conditions Mechanically inclined, comfortable with heights and spatially aware Comfortable wearing a respirator and working according to safety standards with hazardous or potentially hazardous material Capable of communication via text message, group text message and email Works well with team & takes direction well Capable of working with a range of personalities, and respectful of diverse backgrounds and levels of experience Offers feedback constructively and respectfully Possesses strong attention to detail and knows how to works efficiently Possesses an acute awareness of cleanliness Capable of problem solving quickly Must be able to get to work on time - job sites change on a daily basis Minimum age requirement 18 years Must be authorized to work in the US Department: Deconstruction Reports to: Field Operations & Safety Manager Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm Compensation: Hourly, full-time. We evaluate our compensation offerings according to market medians and internal pay equity. The hourly pay range starts at $22 per hour, increasing depending on experience.
