Maritime Data Analyst

Award-winning Edge AI Maritime startup in Washington, DC (full-remote option) is growing the team and in need of a Maritime Data Analyst. This person will leverage their expertise in vessel recognition, maritime intelligence, and imagery analysis to classify vessel imagery, adjudicate disagreements, and improve the accuracy of maritime data used to train and evaluate AI systems.This is a specialized role for someone with professional experience identifying vessels by sight and a strong understanding of naval and commercial vessel types. The ideal candidate will have a background in maritime intelligence, imagery analysis, GEOINT, maritime operations, or a related field and will be comfortable challenging existing classifications and providing clear, well-reasoned recommendations.Preferred Qualifications:Professional experience identifying and classifying vessels by sightExperience with maritime intelligence, imagery analysis, GEOINT, maritime domain awareness, or a related fieldStrong knowledge of naval and commercial vessel types and classesAbility to identify and distinguish military vessel types, including vessels from navies outside of the United StatesExperience analyzing satellite, aerial, or other forms of vessel imageryAbility to independently review imagery and make accurate classification decisionsStrong attention to detail and ability to identify ambiguous or difficult-to-classify vesselsAbility to clearly document classification decisions and explain the reasoning behind themWillingness to challenge existing classifications, category definitions, and assumptions when the imagery does not support themStrong written communication and analytical skillsStrong Plus:Previous experience with naval intelligence, Coast Guard intelligence, or military imagery analysisProfessional maritime experience, including deck watch or vessel operationsExperience with ship recognition training or instructionExperience working with GEOINT, OSINT, remote sensing, satellite imagery, or geospatial dataExperience with maritime domain awareness or vessel trackingExperience identifying foreign naval vessels and classesExperience with ArcGIS or other geospatial analysis toolsExperience working with imagery datasets, annotation, quality control, or data adjudicationExperience working with AI/ML teams or technology companiesPackage:Contract to hire opportunityFull RemoteCompetitive hourly compensation based on experienceOpportunity to work on a cutting-edge maritime technology platformWork directly with a technical team building and improving maritime AI capabilitiesSignificant impact on the quality and accuracy of real-world maritime data
