This position reports to the Manager of Financial Reporting. Assist in managing all aspects of reporting processes, including preparation of the SEC documents, review of information received from various teams, performing accounting research, documentation of technical accounting matters, and participation in projects covering all aspects of financial accounting and reporting.Duties And ResponsibilitiesMay include, but are not limited to, the following:Lead preparation of financial statements and footnote disclosures for use in SEC filingsEnsure accuracy and compliance with GAAP and SEC reporting requirements, all quarterly and annual financial informationAssist with research and documentation of technical accounting and financial reporting requirements under GAAP and SEC using all available tools, perform primary thinking, recommend disclosure requirements and accounting treatment for complex transactions based on such researchLead XBRL tagging of the 10K and 10Q financial statementsPrepare cash flow statements involving local and international locationsPerform analysis of critical accounts and balances Perform variance analysis on periodic financial statementsPerform accounting, recording journal entries and prepare disclosures related to derivative financial instruments, including commodity hedge contracts, interest rate swap instruments and foreign currency hedge contractsPrepare monthly internal management report Assist with other SEC filingsLead preparation of statutory financial statementsLead preparation of benefit plan financial statementsLead preparation of Government SurveysAssist with preparation of other compliance reportsPrepare guarantors financial statements for the 10K and 10Q filingsAssist in the coordination and support of the annual audit and quarterly review activity with external auditorsMonitor and identify major performance areas for enhancement via automation and/or improved workflowsAssist with ad hoc requests from various teams Remain abreast of changes in generally accepted accounting principles to ensure compliance Perform the primary thinking encompassed by this job descriptionComply with all Company policies and procedures Fully supports Company goals of continuous improvement and operational excellence at strategic and tactical levels including reviewing areas of responsibility for improvement opportunities to initiate projects or communicate ideas to management as well as active participation on project teamsEducation, Experience And QualificationsBachelor’s in Accounting with at least seven years of progressive accounting experience in both public accounting and the private sector is required, preferably with a chemical or refinery company. CPA certification is required.Experience with SEC reporting and general accounting is required. Must be proficient with spreadsheet programs, including Excel.Knowledge of computerized accounting systems, SAP and BPC/EPM, is critical to the position.Demonstrated knowledge and ability in researching and documenting new accounting guidance and the accounting treatment of complex issuesStrategic thinking and leadership experience with an emphasis on relationship management and communication at all levels within an organizationFacilitate and coordinate multiple deadlines, create cohesive teams, and respond quickly to management requestsDemonstrated leadership ability, team management, employee development and interpersonal skills Previous supervisory experience is requiredPHYSICAL DEMANDSWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.WORK ENVIRONMENTThe noise level in the work environment is usually moderate as normally based in an office. Some of the work may be required in the operating units which can require usage of required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, etc. May also result in exposure to outside elements and may require usage of stairs and elevators.
