DescriptionSummary/ObjectiveThe Phlebotomist plays a vital role in the healthcare system by ensuring that blood samples are collected safely and efficiently, contributing to the diagnosis and treatment of medical conditions. Their training and skills are crucial for maintaining patient care standards in various medical settings. Professionally trained to collect blood samples from patients, they perform blood draws for various purposes, including laboratory testing, blood transfusions, and blood donations. Phlebotomists ensure that the process is safe, sanitary, and comfortable for patients.Essential FunctionsPreparing patients for blood drawsCollecting blood samples through venipuncture or capillary punctureLabeling and storing blood samples correctly for laboratory analysis.Maintaining equipment and ensuring a clean work environment.Assisting patients who may experience adverse reactions during or after the blood draw. CompetenciesPossesses the ability to deal tactfully and effectively with patient and their families, other employees, and physiciansExcellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills. Comprehensive knowledge of applicable safety and specimen handling guidelines and procedures.Supervisory ResponsibilityThis role does not have supervisory responsibility.Work EnvironmentThis position operates in a gastroenterology physicians’ office.Physical DemandsFull range of body motion. Manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordinationFrequent mobility and/or sitting required for extended periods of time. Some bending, lifting, and stooping requiredNormal color perception and corrected visual acuityInvolvement with management of information concerning physician, staff, hospital personnel, and patients. Occasional high stress work may require dealing with angry, demanding patients and/or personnelPosition Type/Expected Hours of WorkThis is a full-time position, with an 8-hour shift Monday through Friday.
