Custodial Staff (Part Time)

DESCRIPTION Custodians play an essential role in maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and functionality of school facilities, ensuring every school day runs smoothly and students & staff can focus on teaching and learning. Custodial staff performs custodial duties to keep the buildings and grounds in a clean and orderly condition. Positions in the custodial area include day porter, floor tech, and general cleaner (evenings/weekends). QUALIFICATIONS Must be able to pass a SLED criminal background check Sex offenders and other related background checks will be conducted Provide a TB Test Provide work authorization documents Desire to work in a school setting Experience in housekeeping, janitorial, custodial or commercial cleaning is a plus Lift up to 50 pounds Ability to push, pull, stand, bend, stoop, and kneel Walk up to 8 hours per day Climb ladders, scaffolds up to 6’ high, and stairs Able to use basic hand tools EXPECTATIONS Good interpersonal skills Willingness to learn Team player with a positive attitude. DUTIES In addition to regular building maintenance functions, the school custodian provides direct support to classroom teachers in set up and maintenance of furniture and equipment Sweep, mop, vacuum, scrub, and wax floors Machine shampoo carpeting Clean walls, vents, screens, furniture, drinking fountains, light fixtures, window blinds, brass, and other interior fixtures Wash interior and exterior windows and glass doors Sweep entryways and empty trash cans immediately outside building entrances Clean restrooms, plunger sinks and toilets, and replenish supplies Change interior light bulbs that can be reached from the sixth step of a ladder or lower Complete work requests to notify management of needed repair work Organize and supply custodial closets as needed Move, remove, and/or set up furniture, furnishings, supplies, equipment, and any other items, inside specified rooms for special functions as directed Adheres to policies and procedures as outlined in the Riverview Employee Handbook. Responsible for maintaining the highest standards of personal hygiene and appearance. Establishes effective working relationships with other members of the school staff. Promotes the overall effectiveness by performing tasks and sharing responsibilities with members of the department during peak periods or when there is an overload of duties.
