Join our talent pipeline and be the first to be notified when we have new projects!Position SummaryYou will be responsible to: Lays out, aligns and welds components that are fabricated, cast and forged to assemble structural forms such as machinery frames, tanks, pressure vessels, furnace shells, buildings and pipe, according to blueprints and metallurgy.Essential FunctionsSelects type and size of pipe or other related materials and equipment according to specificationsSelects equipment and plans layouts, assembly, and welding, applying knowledge of geometry, physical properties of metal machining, and welding techniquesMay be required to use Gas-Metal Arc, Flux-Cored Arc, Gas-Tungsten Arc, Submerged Arc, or Shielded Metal Arc welding processesLays out, positions, aligns and fits components together in various body positionsBolts, clamps and welds together metal components of products such as piping systems, plate, pipe and tube or structural shapes, using arc and arc gas welding equipmentMay weld in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positionMay tack weld assemblies togetherConnects cable from welding unit to obtain amperage, voltage, slope and pulse as specified by procedure or supervisorObtains specified electrode and inserts electrode into portable holder or threads consumable electrode wire through portable welding gunStarts power supply to produce electric currentStrikes arc which generates heat to melt and deposit metal from electrode to work piece and join edges of work pieceManually guides electrode or gun along weld-line, maintaining length of arc and speed and movement to form specified depth of fusion and bead, as judged from color of metal, sound of weld, and size of molten puddleMay manually apply filler rod to supply weld metalMay clean or degrease weld joint or workplace, using wire brush, portable grinder, or chemical bathMay repair broken or cracked parts and fill holesMay remove excess weld, defective weld material, slag and spatter, using carbon arc gouge, hand scrapper, grinder or power chipperMay preheat work piece, using hand torch or heating furnaceMay cut metal plates or structural shapesExamines weld for bead size and other specificationsLoads, transports and unloads material, tools, equipment and suppliesMay assist in lifting, positioning and securing of materials and work pieces during installationPerforms minor maintenance or cleaning activities of tools and equipmentAssists other mechanics as neededRespiratory protection is common and may be requiredRequired to pass employer performance tests or standard tests to meet certification standardsPerforms only procedures certified inResponsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rulesPerforms other duties as requestedRequirementsPosition QualificationsTechnical Certification (company qualification tests) or NCCER preferredHigh School Diploma or equivalent preferredPrevious years of experience in the field or in a related areaHave knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular fieldWork within precise limits or standards of accuracyCapable of certifying on multi-process pipeBeing proficient in SMAW, GTAW and GMAW welding processesMay require x-ray qualitiesMake decisions based on measurable criteriaApply basic mathematics to solve problemsPlan work and select proper toolsVisualize objects in three dimensions from plans and drawingsCompare and see differences in the size, shape and form of lines, figures and objectsRelies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the jobWorks under immediate supervision.
