Job SummaryThe Security Officer provides a safe and secure environment for patients, staff, and visitors by monitoring facilities, enforcing policies, and responding to incidents. This role plays a critical part in preventing safety risks and ensuring a secure healthcare environment.Minimum QualificationsEducation: High school diploma or equivalent requiredMaryland resident Individuals eligible for the Maryland Service Year Program (generally ages 18–24)Experience: Minimum six months of security experience preferred Licensure/Certification:Maryland Security Guard Card (or ability to obtain within 90 days)Current BLS (CPR) certification requiredDe-escalation training required within 90 daysValid driver’s license required for certain duties Skills & Abilities:Knowledge of security or law enforcement practicesStrong communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to remain calm and professional in stressful situationsObservation and problem-solving skills What You’ll DoConduct interior and exterior patrols of facilities and groundsMonitor entrances, parking areas, and key security postsRespond to incidents and ensure safety of patients, staff, and visitorsMaintain security presence in high-risk areas (e.g., Emergency Department)Provide directions and assistance to visitors and patientsDocument security activities and incidentsEnforce policies related to safety, parking, and access controlWhat The Job Is Really LikeYou’ll spend much of your time walking, observing, and monitoring environmentsThe role requires constant awareness and attention to surroundingsSome situations may involve conflict, stress, or emergenciesYou must remain calm and professional under pressureThe job includes both routine patrols and unpredictable situationsStrong customer service is important—you’ll regularly assist visitorsWork Environment & DemandsHospital campus with indoor and outdoor responsibilitiesFrequent walking, standing, and patrol activities (see physical demands on page 2) Exposure to various environments, including emergency and behavioral health areasRequires sustained alertness and quick decision-makingCombination of independent work and team coordinationWhat Success Looks LikeThe environment remains safe and secureIncidents are handled quickly and professionallyDocumentation is accurate and completeVisitors and staff feel supported and safeYou maintain vigilance and professionalism at all timesCaring for Our TeamWe offer a comprehensive benefits package to support our employees' well-being and professional growth.
