Construction Technician
Responsibilities include:
This position is an owner’s representative role supporting the Resident Engineering Staff in the management of Ft Harrison’s design and construction projects. Position will work collaboratively with VA engineering staff and involve oversight of building construction, infrastructure projects, utility installation, and hospital/medical facility projects. The Construction Manager will perform engineering and CM services including, but not limited to the following (in no particular order):
Responsible for conducting and carrying out portions of daily inspections of site work and building construction work, documents discrepancies, code violations, improper materials, or techniques in the application of materials, substandard or poor-quality workmanship.
Monitor schedules of ongoing design and construction projects and keep thorough records of all contract-related matters, maintain accurate and complete job files including as-built drawings and specifications, maintain an inventory of materials, supplies and equipment, and monitor the quantity of materials and installation used in construction projects.
Conduct technical document reviews of design specifications and drawings for projects for code compliance, constructability, and design intent.
Conduct and/or attend weekly project meetings to monitor project status, schedule, discuss problems, and resolve issues accordingly.
Provide written feedback and recommendations to the Senior Resident Engineer on all information reviewed and work inspected.
Prepare estimates and inspection punch lists.
Prepare and submit daily reports indicating work completed, work in progress with estimated completion dates, work scheduled and outstanding work.
Reviewing contractor's submittals and RFIs, testing/inspections reports, and contractor payment requests for accuracy and acceptability and submit a written recommendation for final payment
Perform safety inspection and prepare reports.
Education and Qualifications:
Bachelors or Associates degree in engineering or construction management.
Education requirements can be waived for technicians qualified in engineering trades such as electricians, building automation systems, low volt systems, communications systems, HVAC technicians as well as CAD technicians with experience in any of the listed trades.
Must be able to communicate fluently in English.
Must be able to pass a federal background check.
Currently possess or will be able to achieve OSHA 30-hour construction safety training within 30 days of hire.
