Position SummaryOptomi, in partnership with an industry leading energy client, are in search for a Telecom Data Network Engineer to support ongoing and emerging network infrastructure across the Midwest region. This role requires a solid foundation in routing and switching, alongside a general understanding of wireless and firewall technologies. Network automation and scripting skills are highly valued. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who operates effectively with minimal supervision in a team-centric, Agile engineering environment.Key ResponsibilitiesDeployment & Implementation: Implement, test, and document standard network solutions across remote field facilities and corporate office locations.Cisco Configuration: Configure Cisco routers and switches in alignment with enterprise architecture templates, standards, and compliance processes.Engineering Documentation: Prepare detailed engineering job packages, including parts lists, logical installation instructions, rack layouts, and physical/logical network drawings via MS Visio.Circuit Provisioning: Procure, provision, and troubleshoot both public and private WAN circuits (Ethernet, cellular modems, T1s).Operational Readiness: Ensure network monitoring/alarming is enabled, asset management systems are updated, and change management workflows are strictly followed.Project Support: Generate installation cost estimates and monitor field deployment work to ensure compliance with standards and regulations.Required QualificationsExperience: Proven hands-on experience configuring and maintaining Cisco routers, switches, and wireless access points.Core Routing & Switching: Solid understanding of Layer 2/3 technologies, including IPv4 subnetting, VLANs, Dot1q trunks, Spanning Tree Protocol (STP), OSPF, and BGP.Physical Infrastructure: Good working knowledge of copper and fiber standards and associated connector types.Security & Wireless: General understanding of firewall technologies, security policies, and enterprise wireless protocols.Execution: Strong troubleshooting skills, a detail-oriented mindset, and the ability to work productively within an Agile framework.Must pass a standard background check.Preferred QualificationsCertifications: Active CCNA Enterprise, CCNP Enterprise, or CCNP Security.Advanced Networking: Experience with front-door VRFs, DMVPN, MPLS L3VPNs, and complex routing policy tools (ACLs, prefix-lists, route-maps).Enterprise Tools: Hands-on experience with Palo Alto firewalls, Opengear terminal servers, SolarWinds, Bluecat IPAM, or Cisco controller-based solutions (ISE, DNAC, SD-WAN, ACI).Environment: Experience with Jira, Agile methodologies, and working within regulated utility or SCADA communication environments.
