We take the time to fully comprehend the activities and company structures of our customers so that we can offer advice on any legal issues they may run into.Position OverviewWe are seeking a skilled Construction Attorney to provide focused legal counsel and representation on construction-related matters. The attorney will advise clients on contracts, compliance, risk management, and dispute resolution while supporting business objectives and minimizing legal exposure. This role combines transactional work with dispute management and requires strong industry knowledge, practical problem-solving, and clear communication with clients and project teams.Key ResponsibilitiesProvide legal advice on construction law matters, including contract drafting, review, and negotiation for owners, contractors, subcontractors, and design professionals.Draft, review, and negotiate construction contracts, subcontracts, change orders, lien waivers, and related documents to protect client interests and allocate risk appropriately.Manage and resolve construction disputes through negotiation, mediation, arbitration, and, when necessary, litigation; work with outside counsel as needed.Conduct legal research and analysis on construction statutes, regulations, codes, and case law; apply findings to client matters and project risks.Advise clients on compliance with applicable construction regulations, permitting requirements, bonding, licensing, and insurance issues.Prepare and manage claims for delay, defects, extra work, and payment disputes; develop strategy for claims avoidance and recovery.Represent clients in pre-litigation counseling and settlement negotiations; prepare pleadings, discovery, and trial support if litigation proceeds.Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and in-house teams to provide practical, business-focused legal guidance during project planning and execution.Provide training and guidance to clients and internal stakeholders on contract best practices, risk mitigation, and dispute avoidance.Manage a caseload, maintain client relationships, track deadlines, and ensure timely, effective legal services.QualificationsNY active bar admission in the applicable jurisdiction(s). NJ is a plus.Attorney with a strong focus on construction law and demonstrated experience advising on construction contracts and project-related issues.Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in construction law, either in-house or at a law firm; transactional and dispute resolution experience preferred.Proven contract drafting and negotiation skills specific to construction documents (AIA contracts, subcontracts, change orders, etc.).Experience managing construction claims and participating in dispute resolution processes; litigation experience is a plus.Familiarity with construction industry practices, project delivery methods, insurance, bonds, and lien law.Nice to have: experience with labor law matters affecting construction projects (union agreements, prevailing wage, workforce issues).Excellent communication, negotiation, and client-management skills with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.Ability to work independently, manage multiple matters concurrently, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.BenefitsPTO401K
