Engineering Manager
SummaryThe Engineering Manager will lead the development and maintenance of the technology infrastructure, systems, and software applications. This role also leads and develops a team of Software Engineers and Senior Software Engineers. This position requires strong leadership skills, technical expertise, and the ability to drive innovation and efficiency in a dynamic environment.ResponsibilitiesLead and mentor the software engineering team, fostering collaboration and innovation.Set clear goals and expectations for the team and provide guidance and support in achieving those objectives.Develop and implement a technology strategy aligned with the company’s business goals and industry best practices.Oversee the design, development, testing, and deployment of software applications and systems that support operations, trading, risk management, portfolio management, and compliance functions.Manage the company’s technology infrastructure, including data centers, cloud services, and networking, to ensure high availability and performance.Ensure that technology systems and applications meet security and compliance requirements, including data protection and access control.Lead the company’s exploration of artificial intelligence as a strategic capability, identifying responsible use cases that support thoughtful innovation, informed decision-making, and operational effectiveness.Collaborate with the compliance and IT teams to address technology-related concerns.Lead technology projects from inception to completion, managing resources, budgets, and timelines.Translate business and technical requirements into clear engineering objectives.Provide regular updates to senior management on project status and performance.QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field; master’s degree preferred.7+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 5 years in a leadership or management role.Experience managing and scaling engineering teams, including hiring, mentoring, and performance management.Strong understanding of software development lifecycle, DevOps practices, modern development stacks, and continuous integration/deployment (CI/CD).Ability to lead complex projects from concept through delivery, balancing technical excellence with business needs.Knowledge of financial industry technology, including trading systems and data analytics tools.Strong communication and interpersonal skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams.About SBB Research GroupSBB Research Group is a Chicago-based investment management firm that views the market through a systematic, interdisciplinary lens.
