Pretreatment Compliance Inspector
OverviewThe Pretreatment Compliance Inspector performs duties to enforce EPA, TCEQ, and City Ordinance regulations and to ensure the City of Corpus Christi is meeting all regulatory requirements. This position is responsible for ensuring industrial and commercial facilities do not discharge contaminates, specifically chemicals, fats, oils, and grease, and other pollutants, that could damage the collection system, wastewater plants, or the bay or the effluent receiving water bodies. The incumbent conducts inspections at industrial and commercial facilities, collects samples, administers notices of violation and citations if facilities do not meet regulatory requirements or City ordinances.ResponsibilitiesInspects commercial facilities (restaurants, schools, hospitals, assisted living, car washes, etc.) for regulatory and ordinance complianceChecks grease traps and hauling records to ensure fats, oils and greases are properly disposed ofInspects industrial facilities for regulatory and ordinance compliance to ensure facilities meet pretreatment standards and do not discharge pollutantsReviews hauling records, data logs, and maintains documentation to support compliance and enforcement actionsIssues Notices of Violation and directives; monitors and ensures compliance following enforcementCollects wastewater and sludge samples for utility billing, regulatory requirements, and pretreatment programs (including daily, monthly, and quarterly sampling at permitted industries and STX Beef)Conducts sampling and testing within the wastewater collection system, including flow mapping and dye testingResponds to grease overflows, odor complaints, call center requests, and TCEQ complaintsProvides public education on proper wastewater practices and disposal methodsInspects industrial facilities to ensure compliance with regulations, ordinances, and pretreatment standards, preventing pollutant dischargeSupports legal proceedings by compiling case data, maintaining records, and testifying in court as neededAssists Wastewater Specialists during sampling eventsPerforms duties across six wastewater treatment plantsPosition Type and Typical Hours of WorkNon-Exempt - Full-Time - 40-hour work weekMust be available to work additional hours as neededFlexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirementIn the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital servicesThe above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this job.
