Note: This position is a 10-Month Work Contract, working August – May of the school year.
Description:
Provide Tulsa Technology Center students instruction in English, Social Studies and testing skills needed to support successful completion of Oklahoma high school graduation requirements, and entry into the workplace or higher education, in a manner that is consistent with District Core Values.
Essential Functions:
Create an optimal learning environment for small and large group instruction as well as individualized tutoring, maintaining an appropriate balance of classroom behavior.
Plan and organize instructional materials, modify (update) lesson plans and instruct students in math, reading and/or writing skills using current instructional strategies to assure highest quality instruction.
Evaluate students using various competency tests to provide timely indications of students’ progress toward successful completion of their TTC program.
Conduct ACT workshops and testing skills preparation classes.
Provide instruction and training to enhance the students’ soft job skills required for making a successful transition into the workplace. Soft Skills include: interviewing skills, resume’ creation, portfolio development, listening and interpersonal communication skills.
Collaborate with instructors, counselors, Assessment Center and Special Services to devise appropriate academic intervention measures to affect maximum student retention and program completion.
Maintain up-to-date records of student attendance, academic progress and grades for academic core courses as required by District policy and certification agencies.
Collaborate with instructors to develop Educational Enhancement Curriculum that directly pertains to skills and competencies required in their chosen programs.
Organize and/or coordinate miscellaneous projects/assignments as assigned.
Continue to develop professional expertise in educational methodology and learning strategies as well as in industry-specific topics through attendance/participation at conferences, professional development training, professional associations, and industry events.
Perform tasks and duties relevant to any of various roles or responsibilities assigned by supervisor and determined by management to be appropriate for this position; comply with all policy, procedure, regulation and other communicated requirements as may be in effect for the workgroup or worksite.
Exercise discretion and independent judgment in making decisions regarding the provision of services to internal and external customers and in day-to-day operations of the department. Interpret and implement policies in a manner consistent with the interests of the district. Provide advice and consultation to executive management as requested. Investigate and resolve issues, as needed, represent the department and District in a professional manner to all.
Job Requirements:
This position requires a minimum of 3 years experience as an educator with specific experience in teaching Mathmatics at the secondary level. Preference will be given to those with a positive track record with at-risk youth and experience with on-line computer instruction.
Oklahoma Teaching Certification with one or, both of the following endorsements is required: Adavanced Mathmatics. Must be willing to obtain remaining endorsement within 1st year of employment.
Valid State Issued Driver's License
Bilingual is a plus
Education:
Bachelors Degree, as well as Oklahoma Teaching Certification in Secondary Education, with Advanced Mathmatics Endorsement.
Salary Schedule:
10 Month Instructor
Hiring Range:
$57,726 to $71,099 annually dependent on experience and education, plus additional $9,000 compensation for salary-in-lieu of dependent benefit coverage.
