FLSA:Non-ExemptQUALIFICATIONS:High school diploma or equivalentMeet one of the following eligibility requirementsAssociate degree;At least 48 college credit hours; ORPass the Para-Pro AssessmentREPORTS TO:Principal of SchoolSUPERVISES:StudentsJOB GOAL:To assist teachers with both teaching-related activities and non-teaching assignmentsTERM:Nine (9) months or Ten (10) monthsSALARY:Paraprofessional Salary SchedulePERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:The assignment of duties of teacher aides is the responsibility of the principal of the school; consistent with Title I, Special Education, and parish guidelines.The paraprofessional's schedule MUST be written, definite, and flexibleAides are to report to work as assigned by the principalThe school day is consistent with that of the They take the same breaks as the teachersAny scheduled in-service training activities which concern aides are to be considered a part of the work dayAides are to work with assigned teachers according to their plans and under direct supervision of the teacher(s)Assist with classroom management such as:Reading instructions to pupilsSupervising lessonsReading storiesListening to oral readingChecking seat workRelieving teachers for conferences or emergenciesAssist with the classroom instructions such as:Helping children who have been absentSupervising individualized programsDictating directions such as spellingOnly the teacher diagnoses and prescribes-the aides assist in the treatment prescribed by:Working on a one to one basis with childrenWorking with groups of childrenAssisting teachers with responsibilities as they work with activitiesTeachers Aides are to be involved in activities such as:Checking objective testsStudying and becoming familiar with all materials to be used in activities to insure their effective useLearning use and care of audio-visual equipment and materialsReproducing materials provided by teacher coordinators and supervisors for the use of activitiesOrganizing and filing all pertinent materials according to skillsAides are to assist with routine classroom behavior but are not to be responsible for discipline of studentsIf duties are assigned for the supervision of children outside the classroom, these must be under the direction of a teacher or professional staff member. Examples: hall, breakfast, bus, etc.Understands the principles of child growth and developmentPerform any other duties assigned by evaluator
