Software Engineer II
Position OverviewAs a Software Engineer II, you'll take on a hands‐on technical role in building and evolving our Third Party Risk Management (SaaS) platform using Laravel (PHP). You design and deliver scalable, maintainable backend services and APIs, and take ownership of features from implementation through deployment and monitoring. You'll contribute meaningfully to our mission of making governance effortless for our customers, working in a team that owns its services end to end - from architecture and implementation to monitoring and continuous improvement. This role is ideal for a mid‐level engineer who writes solid code, mentors others, and embraces AI‐powered tools to work smarter and faster. You'll guide junior engineers, shape architectural discussions, and help scale modern development practices, including responsible use of AI in workflows.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, develop, and maintain features and APIs within our Laravel applicationsOwn and deliver well‐defined stories independently, with a clear grasp of team architecture, frameworks, and toolsImprove application performance, scalability, and reliabilityActively contribute to architectural discussions and technical decision‐makingReview code, uphold engineering standards, and contribute to testing and CI/CD practicesMentor and support junior engineers (Software Engineer I) through feedback and knowledge sharingUse AI tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT) to improve productivity across coding, debugging, testing, and documentation while critically evaluating outputsUnderstand core LLM concepts (e.g., tokens, context length, hallucinations), recognize safe vs. unsafe use cases, and flag ethical, privacy, or cost concernsIdentify and implement improvements that enhance developer experience and system stabilityMaintain healthy development flow by adhering to Agile processes and driving iterative enhancementsRequired Experience/Skills3–5 years of professional software engineering experience in an agile, fast‐paced environmentStrong experience with PHP and Laravel, within the TALL stack (Tailwind, Alpine.js, Laravel, Livewire)Solid understanding of relational databases (MySQL / MariaDB), including query optimisation and data modellingExperience designing and building RESTful APIs and working with system integrationsPractical experience with AWS or similar cloud platformsProficiency with Git and collaborative development workflowsExperience working with Docker or containerised environmentsComfortable debugging production issues and working with logs, monitoring, and observability toolsWorking knowledge of frontend technologies (e.g., Vue, React, or Blade)Collaboration & communication: Comfortable discussing architectural decisions, documenting designs (potentially with AI assistance), and presenting technical ideas clearly.Practical experience using AI tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT) in daily development workflowsAbility to use AI for tasks such as debugging, test generation, documentation, and researchUnderstands core AI concepts (e.g., LLM behaviour, hallucinations, limitations)Critically evaluates and validates AI‐generated outputs before applying themAware of privacy, security, and data sensitivity when using AI toolsUses AI to improve efficiency while maintaining engineering quality and ownershipThis is an on‐site / hybrid role based in Amsterdam.
