Pastry Cook at Watercolor The role of Pastry Cook is responsible for baking various desserts, pastries, breads, and other dishes in the kitchen of our establishments. The Pastry Cook is expected to create pastries, cookies, and other baked goods, developing new and unique recipes to feature on the menu and keeping stock of the kitchen's inventory. This position exhibits creative baking and decorating talents by personally performing tasks while supporting the staff in preparing quality and consistent pastries.Primary responsibilities and essential functions include:Ensuring all Food & Beverage policies, standards and procedures are followedEnsuring culinary standards and responsibilities are consistently metPreparing and cooking foods of all types, either on a regular basis or for special guests or functionsChecking the quality of raw and cooked food products to ensure that standards are metFollowing proper handling, storage, and right temperature of all food productsMaintaining purchasing, receiving, and food storage standardsSupporting procedures for Food & Beverage portion and waste controlsAssisting in determining how food presentation and creates decorative displaysPlanning the dessert and pastry menu to complement savory itemsCompleting daily prep and production of high-volume bakery products consistently and without sacrificing food qualityMaintaining up to date knowledge about pastry arts and ingredientsEnsuring the kitchen is clean and sanitizedOperating and maintaining all department equipment and reporting malfunctionsAttending all scheduled employee meetings and bringing suggestions for improvementDeveloping, designing, or creating new applications, ideas, relationships, systems, or products, including artistic contributionsRecognizing superior quality products, presentations, and flavorEnsuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulationsAll other duties as assignedQualifications Education and experience:Sufficient education and literacy needed to identify and read product labels and to communicate with guests about job-related needsAbility to read, write, and speak, and communicate in basic English preferred3 years of relevant professional experience in culinary, food and beverage, or a related field ORDegree in Culinary Arts, Hotel & Restaurant Management, or a related field and at least 1 year of relevant professional experienceKnowledge, skills, abilities:Detail-oriented and thoroughAbility to perform consistent work to the highest of standardsAbility to remain discreet and respect the privacy of guestsAbility to interact with guests in a pleasant, friendly wayKnowledge of different types of pastry, dessert, cake decoratingPossess professional disposition with good communication and interpersonal skillsPositive attitude and good communication skillsAble to follow recipes and instructions accuratelyKnowledge of pastry arts and ingredientsConfident culinary techniques and skillsGood sense of planning and preparation for the day aheadDiligent and meticulous in making and receiving ordersStrong organizational and time management skillsPhysical demands:Ability to lift up to 50 lbsAbility to stand for the entire shiftFrequent walking, bending, lifting, and carryingAbility to carry trays of food or suppliesWorking conditions:Indoor kitchen environmentExposure to heat, noise, and a fast-paced settingOccasional prolonged visual attention
