Control Panel Designer
Your Impact
Our engineering department is looking for a meticulous Control Panel Designer to take charge of the entire industrial control panel development process. You will manage everything from initial component sourcing and schematic creation to vendor management and high-voltage verification. By working alongside our electrical, mechanical, and manufacturing teams, you will help ensure the production of reliable, high-quality, and fully compliant control systems that adhere to rigorous safety requirements.
Core Responsibilities
Create industrial control panel designs that strictly follow NEC (NFPA 70) and UL 508A regulations.
Produce comprehensive schematics, system layouts, and bills of materials (BOM) utilizing EPLAN or similar software platforms.
Choose suitable hardware, such as wire harnesses, connectors, power conversion units, and circuit protection devices, to ensure system integrity.
Determine the specifications for components required for high-voltage operations reaching 600V AC and 2000V DC.
Coordinate with external fabrication partners to successfully turn design specifications into functional, finished assemblies.
Direct and supervise high-voltage testing protocols, including insulation resistance, hipot, and overall functional performance checks.
Work in tandem with mechanical staff to optimize enclosure choices, thermal control, and overall system integration.
Participate in DFMEA processes to proactively detect potential system failures and establish effective risk reduction plans.
Essential Qualifications
Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (or a related field) with at least 5 years of experience, or a Master’s degree with 3+ years of experience.
Demonstrate high proficiency in industry-standard panel design tools like EPLAN.
Show a proven track record of creating control panels that meet all NEC and UL 508A compliance standards.
Possess practical experience executing high-voltage testing and maintaining strict safety standards.
Maintain a deep knowledge of power conversion, wire sizing, and branch circuit protection coordination.
Manage the full vendor lifecycle, from initial design and fabrication through to final acceptance.
Utilize various product development and management systems, such as Jira, Jama, and PLM software like Teamcenter or Arena.
Demonstrate the self-motivation required to complete tasks effectively without constant oversight.
Desired Qualifications
Prior experience within a UL 508A Recognized Panel Shop or direct involvement in the UL listing workflow.
Possession of an NFPA 70E certification or practical experience performing arc flash analysis.
Previous exposure to sectors like energy storage, semiconductor manufacturing, EV charging, or industrial automation.
Experience utilizing simulation software like ETAP for branch protection coordination.
Technical Proficiencies
Expertise in 120/208/240/480 Voltage Systems.
Application of Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles.
Application of Design for Assembly (DFA) principles.
Proficiency in Mechanical Design & Engineering.
Advanced skills in Blueprint Reading.
Advanced use of EPLAN software.
Tools and Technologies
CAD Software suites including AutoCAD, Solidworks, Catia, Pro-E / Creo, and Siemens NX.
Experience with Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) systems.
