Job DescriptionArts Complex Ushers serve as the cornerstone of customer service for productions and patron services within the Arts Complex. This role is responsible for enforcing production-specific policies set by Resident Partners, as well as venue policies established by Denver Arts & Venues.Successful Ushers demonstrate strong judgment in nuanced situations, prioritize patron safety, and consistently deliver a positive guest experience before, during, and after performances.Key ResponsibilitiesEnforce production-specific guidelines, including but not limited to photography policies, seating holds, and seating breaksConfidently and respectfully address patrons when policies are not being followed before, during, or after performancesDirect patrons attending events, including guiding guests to assigned seats and venue amenities such as restrooms and ATMsProvide clear directions in accordance with venue safety policies and proceduresPerform crowd control duties, including directing both large and small crowds and restraining patrons when required by operational guidelinesWork nights, weekends, and holidays as required by event schedulesComprehend, direct, and execute emergency procedures, including venue evacuationsVenues Covered Team members must be willing and able to work at both venues: Temple Hoyne Buell TheatreEllie Caulkins Opera HouseQualifications & Experience This position includes strenuous physical and situational demands, including but not limited to: Ability to comfortably navigate theaters in dark, quiet environmentsAbility to work independently and adapt to redeployment as operational needs requireAbility to learn and retain seating layouts within multiple theatersStrong communication skills with the ability to convey information concisely in time-sensitive situationsAbility to move quickly or run when required during a shiftAbility to perform regular patrols throughout a shiftTolerance for loud noise and amplified musicAbility to lift and carry a minimum of 25 poundsAbility to climb stairs and stand for extended periods without sittingAbility to safely and appropriately intervene with patrons in accordance with established operational guidelinesAbility to operate ticket scanners, including reading and responding to visual and audible promptsAbility to address large groups of patrons effectively amid moderate ambient noise without voice amplificationAbility to open and close doors, including fire doors, following production-specific and safety guidelinesAbility to read and comprehend event tickets, event briefing sheets, and other printed materialsWillingness to perform other duties as assigned based on operational needsSituational Requirements Uniform shirts and pants are not provided; uniform shirts must meet established standardsOn-site parking is not free for employeesEmployees may park at one of two discounted employee parking locations within walking distance of the Arts ComplexOr park on-site at the full event rate
