Applications Engineer

Overview As an Applications Engineer, you provide hands-on CNC system support from installation to commissioning and program development. You will work with sales, product development, and service teams to deliver reliable machining solutions and drive product adoption. You will troubleshoot, optimize processes, and train customers and internal staff. You will conduct pre-sales assessments, ROI analyses, and document setup sheets to enable repeatable success. This role combines field work with cross-functional collaboration to solve real manufacturing challenges. Compensation / BenefitsMedical, dental, visionPrescription drug coverageST/LT DisabilityLife Insurance and AD&D401K matchPTO+Holidays ResponsibilitiesLead CNC installation, setup, commissioning, and field acceptance testing at customer sitesDevelop, test, and optimize CNC programs (G-code) for milling, turning, and grinding using CAD/CAM toolsTroubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and control system issues; provide root cause analysis and corrective actionsUnderstand customer requirements and recommend process improvements, tooling, fixtures, and machine configurationsProvide training and technical support on CNC operation, programming, and maintenanceCollaborate with sales engineers on pre-sales activities: assessments, demonstrations, ROI analysesDocument solutions, create setup sheets, work instructions, and service reports for knowledge transferSupport continuous improvement by collecting performance data and suggesting optimizationsCoordinate with manufacturing and R&D to validate new features, retrofit kits, and customized solutionsTravel regularly to customer sites for installations, training, and troubleshooting Key requirementsBachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field, or equivalent technical diploma with relevant experience3+ years of hands-on CNC installation, commissioning, and field service support (milling, turning, or grinding)Proven experience writing and optimizing CNC programs and using CAD/CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, Fusion 360, SolidCAM)Practical knowledge of CNC machining processes, tooling, fixturing, and surface finishing including CNC grindingFamiliarity with CNC controllers (Fanuc, Siemens, Heidenhain) and ability to read/debug G-codeStrong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills including PLC and motion control basicsExcellent customer-facing communication skills with experience delivering technical training and documentationAbility to travel regularly and work on customer sites; valid driver's license requiredDetail-oriented with strong organizational skills for multiple projects and prioritiesPreferred: CNC programming certifications, machining vocations, or experience with high-precision grinding and toolingcustomer-facing communicationtraining deliverymulti-project managementCNC programming and optimizationG-code reading and debuggingCAD/CAM tools (Mastercam, Fusion 360, SolidCAM)
