Maintenance Manager

Maintenance Manager The Maintenance Manager oversees day‑to‑day functions of mechanics, bus washers, utility workers, and administrative staff. Maintenance facilities operate on a three‑shift basis to ensure maintenance of equipment is completed, tests and inspections evaluate quality or performance of equipment, and specifications are met to DOT, client, or company standards. This position is based in Bedford Park, IL supporting the MDW RAC Location. Compensation Competitive compensation package of minimum $64,000 annually—maximum $80,000 annually depending on experience and ASE certifications. Key Responsibilities Hire, train and schedule Maintenance Technicians. Approve priority of maintenance and repairs based on availability of materials and parts and requirements of scheduled operations. Coordinate and oversee work performed by outside vendors. Ensure company and client equipment is maintained and operating efficiently. Manage inventory. Implement safety policies and procedures for the department per corporate requirements. Participate in the development and administration of the operational budget. Identify opportunities for improving service delivery methods. Other duties as required. Travel requirement outside of immediate area: 10%. Qualifications High school diploma, GED or equivalent. Valid CDL Class B (or higher) with passenger and airbrake endorsements preferred. 7+ years experience in the repair and maintenance of heavy‑duty automotive and transit equipment. 3+ years supervisory experience. Broad understanding of all mechanical systems related to heavy‑duty transportation vehicles. Familiarity with laws & regulations associated with the safe operation of maintenance facilities. Proficient with Microsoft Office. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Must be able to work shifts or flexible work schedules as needed. Subject to DOT drug testing and physical if applicable. DOT Regulation 49 CFR Part 40 does not authorize use of Schedule I drugs, including cannabis, for any reason. Physical Requirements Work outside in varying temperature, weather, and humidity conditions; 100% of job performed outside, work alone and in remote locations. Sit for extended periods (up to 6–8 hours per day); frequently walk for long distances on possible sloped ground or slippery and uneven surfaces. Push and pull objects up to 50 pounds; lift material up to 50 lbs. with or without assistance; occasionally bend, kneel, or crouch to files or equipment stored at ground level. Withstand heavy traffic areas; tolerate exposure to dust, vehicle fumes, and noise.
