School Bus Driver (On-Call) 2026-27 School YearMaranatha High School - Pasadena, CASalary Range $28.00 - $31.00 HourlyPosition Type Non-ExemptJob Shift AnyEducation Level High SchoolCategory TransportationPOSITION SUMMARYThe School Bus Driver is responsible for transporting students to and from athletic and school sanctioned events, and maintaining proper student behavior and safe riding practices on the bus. The Bus Driver ensures school buses and passenger vans are in proper working order, and logs required operational reports to ensure compliance with transportation department rules and regulations.STATEMENT OF FAITHAs a Christian individual, employed with a Christian institution, Employee acknowledges and affirms that Employee believes, embraces and at all times does and will follow the School's Statement of Faith, as expressed in Exhibit A attached and incorporated hereto. Employee understands that continued employment with School is contingent upon this commitment.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESOperates a school bus in transporting students to and from school events as scheduled.Maintains proper student behavior and safe riding practices on the bus.Checks fuel and oil levels and tires of the bus and has the bus serviced when necessary.Validates accuracy and submits required transportation reports and logs.Inspects and cleans bus interior prior to and at the end of each run for mechanical condition affecting safety of operation, physical condition, and to ensure that no students remain on the bus.Checks and verifies for route changes and maintains route schedules.Maintains, files, and logs required operational reports to ensure compliance with rules and regulations.Ensures safe work practices.Makes minor emergency repairs.Makes special bus trips as assigned.Reports bus incidents, collisions, and service interruptions promptly by radio and in writing.Renders first-aid and operates fire extinguishers when necessary.Trains students in bus evacuation procedures.Access web-based payroll data, forms, and mandated on-line employee training.May lift or assist students with disabilities on and off the bus.Performs related duties as assigned.ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESPromote defensive and undistracted driving practices.Drive a bus safely in heavy metropolitan traffic in accordance with the requirements of transportation schedules and traffic laws.INTERACTIONInteract internally with faculty, staff, and students. Interact externally with parents, schools and the community.QualificationsJOB-RELATED QUALIFICATIONS STANDARDSKnowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesCalifornia Vehicle Code, and traffic ordinances of local governmental agencies within the driving boundaries.Minor bus repairs and adjustments.CPR/First Aid practices.State Department of Education, Department of Motor Vehicles, and California Highway Patrol regulations pertaining to student transportation and bus operations.EducationHigh School diploma.Work ExperienceSix months of experience in driving a bus or truck or successful completion of a course in school bus driver training.One year of experience in driving a bus or truck of at least 16,000 pounds gross vehicle weight a plus.Licenses or CertificatesA valid California Driver License, Class A or B with Passenger and Air Brake endorsements.A California School Bus Driver Certificate with no restrictions or Automatic Transmission Only restriction.CPR/First Aid /AED Certification.Language SkillsRequires good verbal English communication skills.Additional RequirementsA good, helpful attitude and a team spirit is the hallmark of the support staff at MHS.Employees are encouraged to be active in their local churches.Attendance is required at all meetings announced by the Director of Operations.Mental DemandsAbility to perform well under pressure, while treating others with respect and consideration.Accept responsibility for own actions; follow through on commitments.Ability to deal effectively with frequent changes or delays.Work EnvironmentThe work environment is primarily outdoors environment with exposure to heat and cold. The noise level in the work environment is moderately loud to loud.A Light Bus Driver operates a "conventional" school bus of up to 28,000 pounds gross vehicle weight.A Heavy Bus Driver operates a large "transit" school bus of at least 24,000 pounds gross vehicle weight with an engine under or behind the driver typically with a passenger capacity of 78 or more.Terms of EmploymentAt-willOn-call position; hours vary depending on events.Transportation needs will be emailed and the driver will have the opportunity to accept or decline.EvaluationThe Director of Operations in consultation with Human Resources will evaluate performance of this position annually.Physical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
