Wordpress Application Developer Tier 1
Howdy! We’re thunder::tech, an innovative integrated marketing agency headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio. We’re seeking a detail-oriented WordPress Developer to join our Development Department.
Our Development Department partners with strategy, design, and front-end teams to bring engaging, content-driven digital experiences to life. This role is focused on building, customizing, and maintaining WordPress-based websites that are performant, accessible, and easy to manage.
This position is well-suited for someone who enjoys CMS-driven development, custom theming, and working closely with designers and content teams.
Specific Responsibilities
Develop, customize, and maintain WordPress websites
Build custom WordPress themes and plugins to meet project requirements
Implement designs with attention to responsiveness, accessibility, and performance
Integrate WordPress with third-party services, APIs, and marketing tools
Maintain and optimize WordPress databases and site performance
Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve site issues across environments
Collaborate with designers, front-end developers, and project managers
Provide project updates and technical guidance to internal teams
Stay current with WordPress core updates, plugin ecosystems, and security best practices
Primary Qualifications
Strong experience developing with WordPress
Proficiency in PHP, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
Experience creating custom themes and plugins (not just page builders)
Understanding of WordPress performance, security, and deployment best practices
Expected Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Web Development, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
1–3 years of professional WordPress development experience
Experience working with modern WordPress workflows, including:
Custom themes (block or classic)
Plugin development
Git-based source control
Familiarity with hosting platforms, staging environments, and deployment workflows
This position provides a market-competitive base salary between $55,000 and $65,000, with the final amount determined by the candidates' experience and qualifications.
