Project Manager (T&D-Substation)

Job Description The Opportunity In this role, you'll manage one or more intermediate to complex project complexity, within a matrix team environment. Provide leadership, direction, training, coordination, and effective communication to initiate, plan, execute, monitor and control, and close projects in a safe, efficient, economical, risk-balanced approach to achieve short- and long-range goals and to obtain maximum customer satisfaction. Provide project transparency and develop relationships and effectively communicate with all stakeholders including internal customers, external customers, team members, suppliers, contractors, vendors, and industry peers, enabling them to make sound business decisions. Job Duties & Responsibilities include:Reviewing all project documents to obtain a professional understanding of all of the materials. This would include scopes of work, purchase orders, material requests, and Engineering drawingsUnderstanding all project and contract budgets for verification, validation, completenessResponsible for managing multiple medium to large projects at the same timeEnsuring that key components such as financial feasibility analyses, engineering/design, project legal review, permitting activities and financial negotiations are progressing throughout the project lifecyclesEnsuring that all change management is included in the project plan and providing the analysis and oversight of the project to ensure all planned tasks get completedPerforming constructability reviews with site walkdownsWorking with accounting personnel to prepare capital expenditure authorizations and all associated budget revisionsProviding the department leadership with project status (scope, budget and schedule progress) and identification of issues requiring management involvement for resolutionVerifying agreement (or buy-in) from associated departments to support the proposed schedule and resource requirements. Reviewing and approving project Plans.Verifying and validating that project estimates are appropriately developed and that contingency is correctly appliedDeveloping the tactical and strategic plans that align with the projectOverseeing and/or reporting contractor resource levelsVerifying adequacy of project team membership and participation. Responsible for overseeing the activities of all consultants and contractors on the project teamUnderstanding the terms of the contract and associated documentation of services under the contract/purchase order. Upon mobilization to the site, reviews applicable topics delineated in the Service Contractor Orientation / Evaluation Checklist with the contractorOverseeing the quality assurance and control program, including identification of quality requirements, responsibility for QA program and if required, review and approval process for contractor provided proceduresProactively identify risk and mitigation plans, monitor project status, recognize negative trends, and project variances, and coordinates corrective actionDevelop and manage the project communication planCommunicating project goals, priorities and decisions to 1st level leadership teamEnsuring project challenge meetings, peer reviews and assessments are performedWorking with Project Scheduler personnel to develop and update the project scheduleIdentifying and notifying the project team of additional resources or requirements necessary to meet the project scope or scheduleEnsuring the documentation, scheduling and disposition of open items applicable to department's area of functional responsibilityOverseeing all close-out activities and lessons-learned review for every projectTravel typically 25% or less however greater travel may be required in support of specific assignments MPI does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, marital status, or based on an individual's status in any group or class protected by applicable federal, state or local law. The Successful Applicant A successful Project Manager (T&D-Substation) should have:A solid background in managing construction projects, particularly within the transmission and distribution substation sector.Bachelor of Science degree in Business, Engineering, Finance, Project Management, Construction Management or related field is required. Minimum of 4 years' related utility project management experience requiredIn pursuit of PMP Certification, a plus. Strong project management skills are required with a demonstrated ability to develop, manage and control multiple tasks.
