Distribution of hours, days and months is based on institutional need.Classification/Points: E, 600Bargaining Unit/Division: Michigan Education Association, Educational Support Personnel I & II, Division II TechnicalPosition Description: Provides operational assistance and actively monitors the activities in the Fitness/Wellness Center. Supports the daily operations, member engagement, and facility oversight to ensure a safe, welcoming, and effective fitness environment for students, employees, and community members.Position Responsibilities: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Support daily operations of the Wellness Center and Training Room.Maintain active oversight of the Wellness Center during scheduled hours, ensuring consistent presence, member engagement, and supervision of the space.Monitor facility usage to ensure safety, proper conduct, and adherence to policies.Assist with conducting new member orientations and provide basic exercise guidance.Actively engage with students, staff and members, fostering a welcoming and supportive environment with personalized exercise routines/goals.Assist with managing and maintaining confidential records and processing membership accounts.Maintain cleanliness, organization, and proper functioning of equipment and facility spaces.Perform end-of-day responsibilities including equipment cleaning, facility organization, monitoring remaining members, and securing the space at closing.Ensure all areas of the Wellness Center are properly secured and operational.Assist with the Employee Health and Wellness Committee to provide college goals, initiatives and overall success is met.Presence on the job is an employee's fundamental obligation. Regular, reliable, and punctual attendance is required.Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor. Distribution of days and hours will be at the discretion of the supervisor.Work Environment: This job operates in an athletic center and professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines, and fitness machines and fitness-related apparatus.Travel: No travel is required.Physical Efforts: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. This position requires the ability to frequently lift and move up to 25 pounds, with the occasionally lift up to 50 pounds and perform routine physical tasks within a fitness facility.Position RequirementsPosition Qualifications:Minimum of an Associate's Degree in related field required. Bachelor's Degree in Health Fitness or related area with course work in anatomy, physiology and psychology preferred.Minimum of one year of relevant experience in a health/fitness center setting required. Knowledge of exercise equipment and their functions preferred.Current Adult CPR and standard First Aid Certification required.Excellent customer service skills and ability to interact with others in a kind and courteous manner.Ability to transcribe, compose and prepare written correspondence required.Computer skills to be able to design and produce accessible weekly newsletters preferred.Experience in exercise prescription and recreation preferred.Excellent written and interpersonal communication skillsAbility to handle all information and records in a confidential and secure manner is required.Full-Time/Part-TimePart-TimeShiftVarious ShiftsClose Date6/1/2026Open Date5/18/2026LocationAlpena Community College - Alpena CampusAbout the OrganizationAlpena Community College is located in Northeast Michigan on the beautiful shoreline of Lake Huron.
