Entry-Level Mechanical Engineer – Robotics

We are looking for a few exceptional, experienced candidates to join the elite team at Temple Allen Industries in Rockville, MD as Entry Level Mechanical Engineers – Robotics to design, detail, and support the mechanical architecture of our EMMA robotic systems. This role is intended for candidates with a strong foundation in mechanical engineering principles—dynamics, stress analysis, and design for manufacturing—who have demonstrated hands-on experience designing and assembling robotic or electromechanical systems and are ready to contribute high-quality CAD models, drawings and documentation in a production-focused environment.In this role you will work across the full mechanical design lifecycle, from developing new parts, detailed drawings, and inspection documentation to defining assembly procedures, supporting builds, and testing and validating that designs perform as required in real operating conditions. With a strong passion for mechanical design, you will help improve the capability, robustness, and usability of our EMMA robotic systems. You will collaborate closely with cross-disciplinary teams to ensure your designs integrate cleanly into the overall architecture and deliver real value to operators and enterprise stakeholders.RequirementsThe following items are typically required for an individual accepting the responsibilities of this position:BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or closely related fieldStrong foundational knowledge of dynamics, stress analysis, and design for manufacturing (DFM)Demonstrated practical experience through university coursework, clubs, internships, or capstone projects involving the design and assembly of robotic, automated, or electromechanical systems.Experience & proficiency with CAD modeling, preferably SolidWorksExperience generating drawings for custom partsExperience & proficiency working with ExcelKnowledge of what a Bill of Material isExperience with assembly workExperience working with or generating assembly instructionsExperience with technical writing Preferred ExperienceExposure to or experience with pneumatics Experience using a Bill of Material (BoM)Familiarity with rapid prototyping techniques and methodsBasic understanding of control systems and electrical component integration Responsibilities:The following items are expected tasks an individual accepting this position will be undertaking and completing:Design parts and assemblies to meet specifications and requirements that you and the team define.Generate SolidWorks models for custom parts, assemblies, modules, and full systems.Update BoM tabs for modules or modifications to correctly show subassemblies, labor times, method of assembly, and all associated component parts.Generate SolidWorks drawings for designed parts.Oversee and delegate small scopes of work for assembly, testing, design, drawing, and analysis.Conduct analyses for comparing costs, labor times, and other key specifications to help with making design decisionsPopulate BoM vendor tabs with all items sourced for a given project or program.Generate and track new part numbers for custom parts.Fulfill assembly and fabrication work orders.Gain an understanding of how to read and use a pneumatic schematic.Submit purchase order requests to procurement to get parts purchased.Draft the technical sections of system manual(s).Use knowledge gained on production floor to update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and other documentation.Fulfill testing work orders and evaluate performance of mechanical and pneumatic prototypes.Who You AreA Problem-Solver: You approach complex challenges with a structured, analytical mindset and are persistent in finding optimal solutionsDetail-Oriented: You have a high standard for precision in your designs and documentationA Collaborator: You communicate effectively and enjoy working as part of a multidisciplinary teamA Self-Starter: You take ownership of your tasks and are driven to see projects through to completion
